Love at the Door

Chapter 28

After Melina started living alone when she was little, no one cared when she said she was in pain, so she stopped saying it aloud. But now, Andrew told her not to hold back.

Melina lowered her head and muttered softly, “It hurts a little.”

Andrew was extremely close to Melina. He could smell her scent mixed with the smell of the antiseptic. He started feeling sleepy.

Why was that the case? Was it really just because of her scent? Perhaps he would find out after he found a way to take her back home.

After what happened, Melina started treating him differently, but Andrew thought things were progressing too slowly. He didn’t have the patience to coax some brat.

After treating Melina’s wound, Andrew said, “Grandpa’s coming over for dinner tonight. You should come

over too.”

Melina’s gaze softened when Wallace was mentioned. She immediately nodded. “Okay. I’ll buy some groceries and bring them over later.”

The two of them stopped talking. They arrived at Oakread very soon.

After Melina got out of the car, Andrew pulled out his phone to make a call, “Grandpa, come over to have dinner at Oakread tonight.”

At the other end of the line, Wallace was stunned. What happened to Andrew? He couldn’t believe that Andrew would invite him over for dinner.

Usually, Andrew would do everything to keep him away. When Wallace didn’t reply, Andrew frowned and asked, annoyed, “Are you coming over or not?”

“Yes, I am!”

Melina went to the supermarket. Since Samuel was taking care of Helena, she decided to come back to tidy up the fish stall.

The others already picked up the fish from the floor and put them back in the tanks. Melina cleaned up the stall. One table and one air pump had been destroyed in the incident, along with several fish dying

It wasn’t a huge loss, but Melina wondered who ordered those men to destroy the stall. What a despicable person. After she was done tidying up, Melina earnestly manned the stall.

Samuel returned at 3:00 pm. Seeing Melina standing there and noticing that she had cleaned up the stall, Samuel said gratefully, “Melina, thank you so much.

“We’ll thank you properly once Helena gets out of the hospital. You won’t be able to man the fish stall by yourself, so pack up for now. We’re keeping the stall closed for two days.”

Melina hesitated. “But, we haven’t sold all the fish.”

Samuel responded graciously, “It’s fine. Give these fish to everyone to thank them for their help today. You can take one or two home too.”

After giving the fish to the surrounding stall owners, they closed the fish stall. Just as Samuel was about to go back to the hospital to look after Helena, Mellna said apologetically, “Um… Mr. Henderson, can I receive 500 dollars from my pay in advance?”

She didn’t mind living a frugal life. She could still survive with bread. But Wallace was coming over today, and she promised to bring some groceries over.

Melina’s voice slowly trailed off as she spoke. She fell bad asking to be paid in advance just after a few days of work.

Samuel immediately pulled out a wad of cash and gave it to Melina without even counting it, “Of course. Just take this much for now. Tell me if it’s not enough!

“I don’t need so much mo–Samuel had already rushed to the hospital before Melina could finish her

sentence.

Melina counted the money in her hands thrice. There was a total of 2300 dollars. She needed to remember that.

After she was done counting, she noticed Andrew walking over from the distance. Melina quickly hid the Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

money.

She was a little nervous. She wondered when Andrew started watching her and if he saw her asking to get paid in advance just now.

“Mister, why are you here? Wait for me. I’ll go shop for groceries now.” Because she was nervous, Melinal spoke very quickly before trying to run away.

Andrew grabbed Melina’s arm, “We’ll shop for vegetables at the mall today.”

The price of vegetables in the mall was much higher than in the supermarket. But after some thought, Melina still nodded in agreement.

Since Wallace was coming over, she thought that she should buy the high–quality stuff. It was okay if it was expensive. She had over two thousand dollars, after all.

Andrew was watching Melina. He couldn’t believe that Melina asked to be paid in advance. She lived on his money in Oakread and appealed to Wallace so much, so how could she be so poor?
