Chapter 14 Like a Fool
Outside the school building was the school's playground.
The huge playground, with all the lights off, was still way better than being inside the school building.
The darkness inside the school building was almost suffocating, but out here, even though it was dim, you could still see what was going on.
The fear in everyone's hearts started to chill out a bit after they made it here.
Almost collapsing, everyone plopped down on the ground, gasping for breath, barely able to stand.
It wasn't that they were out of shape; they had just been trapped in the school building for too long. The extreme fear and frantic running had wiped them out instantly.
"Man, that scared the crap outta me. It was so freaky just now, so close, almost right in front of me. That baby was lying on Sophia's shoulder, staring at me. I had no idea when that baby crawled over," a male classmate said, his voice still shaking.
"It must be a ghost. There are ghosts everywhere. We're screwed," a female classmate said, her face pale and her mind already kinda losing it.
"Wait, Sophia was grabbed by that ghost, so why is Michael missing, too?" Suddenly, Aria spoke up.
She was Michael's friend, having known him since middle school, so she always kept an eye on him.
David glanced around and, sure enough, didn't see Michael.
After a bit, they saw Michael supporting Sophia as they walked over.
"Michael, thank God, you're alright," Aria said with joy.
The others were also super happy to see that Sophia and Michael were okay. It was the only good news today.
Too many classmates had died from the beginning until now.
"Yeah, very lucky," Michael nodded.
David said excitedly, "Michael, I knew you'd be fine. The ghost was too terrifying. If we run into danger again, you gotta remember to save me!"
"I'm not interested in saving dudes, only beauties," Michael said.
Sophia, standing next to him, blushed slightly at his words, showing a bit of shyness in her eyes.
David knew Michael was joking and didn't take it to heart. Suddenly, David thought of something and asked, "Wait, something's off. How did you and Sophia escape from that situation?" He suddenly looked at Michael with a bit of suspicion. "Of course, I punched that kid and ran out with Sophia. How else do you think we got out?" Michael said.
David said seriously, "You dare to hit a ghost? Really? Now I highly doubt you're Michael at all. You might be a ghost trying to blend in with us to kill us all. That's how it always goes in horror movies."
At these words, everyone looked at Michael with fear as if he was a real ghost.
"Can't you think straight? If you really ran into a ghost, you'd be dead already, not standing here talking," Michael said.
"True," David said seriously.
Michael said, "My phone is dead. Does anyone know what time it is now?"
"My watch seems to bust. It says it's four in the morning," Aria said, staring at her wristwatch in surprise.
"Hey, my phone also says it's five past four. I just checked, and it was only eight-thirty."
"When did so much time fly by?"
Everyone realized something was seriously off with the time.
Michael glanced back at the school building, shrouded in darkness in the distance, and said, "Time doesn't matter. I'm just wondering why, with such a big incident happening here and so much time passing, there's no reaction from outside?" "Yeah, I called the cops earlier."
"I also called my mom."
"It's so quiet around. Usually, at this time, there would be the sound of cars outside the school, but now not even a single car's headlights could be seen."
Michael looked up at the sky.Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
Dim and lightless, no moonlight, no starlight, which was totally weird.
"Michael, what's going on?" David also felt uneasy, and fear surged in his heart again.
"We've been in a Ghost Realm all along," Michael said in a deep voice. "And we've never left. The Ghost Realm's range isn't just the school building; even the playground is within it. This range might be even larger. The school building was probably the center before, and now we're slightly on the edge. Or maybe the ghost is moving, and the Ghost Realm's range changes with the old man's position. But we haven't seen the old man around, so the impact isn't significant. "But I think the Ghost Realm is a special enclosed space. Whether it's the center or the edge, both sides are not easy for us to get out of. The distance doesn't seem to be the key to escaping the Ghost Realm.
"In other words, we're trapped now, like birds in a moving cage, forced to move with it, but we can't detect the movement."
"So what do we do now?" Sophia said, her voice trembling, her hand tightly gripping Michael's arm, her body leaning against him, as if she had already regarded him as her savior.
She never wanted to experience what had happened at the stairwell again.
The others also looked at Michael with hope, hoping he could come up with a good way to leave this place completely.
Michael touched the few closed eyes on the back of his hand.
There might be only one way to leave here: to continue using the ghost's power.
But Nikolai had also said that the ghost inside his body would grow bigger and revive more since he had used its power, which led him closer to death.
'No wonder Nikolai said that becoming a Ghost Handler is not just for others, but also for himself. Because sometimes, it's not just about saving others; you have to save yourself when facing a ghost,' Michael thought to himself. 'But before that, there's something I need to figure out and a grudge to settle. Otherwise, I won't calm down.'
After making up his mind, Michael said, "Who has Henrik's number on their phone? Lend it to me. If I'm right, he's probably still trapped here like us."
