"I am still not ruling anything out." Sage growled as she simmered down to listen to Kane as he explained how he thought making people believe he and Knox had cheated on me was a good idea, but he made it very clear it was not because they wanted to, but because Connie, for all intents and purposes was apparently their 'mate' too.

"I feel sick." I grumbled, "And it's not morning sickness either." I added as I fought the urge to vomit at the idea of her anywhere either of them.

"And people will buy this crap? Because only yesterday you were showing me off at the damn ball, proclaiming there was no one else for you!" I questioned, rolling my bottom lip to keep the tears I felt bubbling inside.

"After the scene Havoc caused, I am not sure people will remember much of our declaration, just the events that followed." Kane offered as he gave Knox an uneasy shrug. "Sorry buddy, but it is true."

"I will remember it, she looked beautiful. I will never forget the way you looked in Ma's dress, the blush on your cheeks and the fulfilment hiding behind your nervous smile. Neither will I forget the feeling of pride, seeing you on my arm." Knox whispered, and despite the anger I felt towards them both right now, a smile curled the corner of my lips.

"Well, we will have to make sure they do forget and believe us." Kane sighed, his face twisting with pain as he looked at his brother, who dropped his eyes. Seeing the pain in Knox's face mirroring his brothers, I knew this plan sucked for me, but it was clearly no picnic for them either.

"OK, so say this goes ahead, and you manage to not only fool Connie but also the pack, your parents and my Brother.. You manage to make them think that I have been discarded because you have both found another mate. One that you want more..." I started to say, but paused to hold my hand up to Kane, who was about to talk. Twisting my lips to keep my voice even, I continued slowly.

"What happens to the pups?" I asked, the idea of losing them eating at my gut painfully.

"They stay with you." Kane sighed, running a hand through his already tussled hair. His face seemed to have aged overnight, and I knew it was down to the stress of all this crap.

"So you plan for this to be a long-term thing, or at least until they are born?" I quizzed, arching a brow as I looked between Knox and Kane.

"Until it is safe," Kane expressed, unable to meet my harsh gaze.

"And when will that be? When the Moon Goddess has moved on to someone else? Until Astaroth finds a way to override the Moon Goddess forever? Or until our daughter is born, and she is powerful enough to take on the moon goddess herself? With the help of her demon mate, of course!" I asked, shaking my head, hating all those options.

"I don't know." Kane growled, slamming his hand on the dresser, the drawers rattling from the force.

"Hey man, that's an antique from Mother's great-grandmother, be fucking careful." Knox groaned, making me smile, because despite the insanely important conversation we were having he still took pride in his heritage and the bonds of family. Which was no doubt the reason he was struggling so badly with his parent's betrayal and the idea of this 'plan' of Kanes.

"What about when the babies are born, Kane?" Knox asked and I nodded with my mate.

"What do you mean?" Kane asked like Knox had asked the world's most stupid question. "They will be with Charlotte." He voiced his features clearly confused.

"And do you think Connie and her posy will be OK with them being alive? You know how this goes when an Alpha takes a new mate, Kane. Any child born before is usually hunted down and eliminated to strengthen the legitimate children's claim." Knox explained. "We won't be having pups with Connie." Kane scoffed, not following.

"But Connie doesn't know that." Knox groaned, trying to get his point across.

"And the previous mate, Kane, unless she has taken sanctuary with a stronger pack, or a rogue pack, is also on that shit list!" I added, with a shrug. "And even then, those babies will be seen as a bargaining chip to control the father and his pack," I explained, nodding to Knox who was remarkably silent.

"We wouldn't allow that." Kane replied furiously, his anger tangible in the large room.

"You wouldn't? I see, and you can control Connie? What about your sister? Her mate, who, by the way, has more reason to want MY children dead than anyone else."

"OUR children." Kane seethed, but I continued.

"After all, they are the very things that strengthen my claim to HIS throne." I explained, arching a brow cockily because I knew I was right.

"That is not going to happen." Kane barked, stepping into the bed, his shadow looming over me as I sat looking up at him.

"Damn right, it's not, because I won't allow it. But, this plan of yours, Kane, is a real threat. They will be at risk from so many angles and their fathers... will be too busy elsewhere to protect them." "They will have you, and Chase." Kane tried to reason, but even I could see the cracks forming in his resolve.

"NOT good enough." I roared, my resolve strengthening seeing Kane submit slightly.

"And you got one thing right, I won't be able to stay here and watch you treat that witch with the same love and devotion you have treated me with. I can't. I won't. I refuse to put myself through it. So I will have to leave.." I began to say Knox's eyes lifted to meet mine, red-rimmed from the tears he was fighting back.

"But the flaw in your plan, Kane, is that I would not be able to go to my brother and the Royal pack... Because Sebastian will make sure some accident befalls me before see my first maternity dress and those pups are even born." 10 reasoned. "So the very reason we are doing this, to protect our pups, becomes the very innocents who suffer in the end."

"She is right." Knox finally uttered. "You both are."

"Have you all considered there is another option?" A voice asked into the room.
