The Ex-Husband's Revenge

Chapter 36

Chapter 36

"So, you were the one who started it, Joseph!"

Iris flew into a rage and stared fiercely at Joseph.

Joseph never dreamed that things would come to that point, and his face turned ashen in the blink of an eye!

Nevertheless, he regained his composure rather quickly thanks to his wealth of experience in facing intimidating individuals!

"Miss Young, the fact that Miss Cameron retracted her statement all of a sudden even though she already vouched for my story earlier is a clear sign that nothing she says is credible! You've always handled everything with objectivity as our company's president, so how could you be sure of my guilt based on merely a few one-sided remarks from Miss Cameron?" Joseph argued.

"Is that so hard for you to accept?"

Iris smiled, albeit with a hint of iciness.

"You're damn right it is! I'm one of the company's old-timers, and during the past few years, I've worked so hard for the company without even taking any credit for it! This kid, on the other hand, is a newbie secretary! He's insignificant! And besides, his silence amounts to an admission of guilt. It boggles me why you trust him so much more than you trust me!" Joseph argued with logic.

"Why? Oh, I'll tell you why. It's because he risked his life to save me two days ago! He's my savior! He nearly died when he tried to save me, so who do you think I should trust more?"

Iris sneered and dropped a bombshell.

"What? He's…your savior? But how? How's that possible!"

Joseph was so dumbstruck that he merely stood there as if he was struck by lightning.

He knew that Iris did not show up for work at the company two days ago, and from what he heard, she was kidnapped by some thugs but was fortunate enough to escape after being rescued soon after.

It was not until then that he realized who was it that saved Iris— It was none other than Leon, the scrawny secretary standing before him!

"I… Now I get it..."

After Joseph recovered from the shock, his face turned ashen and he slumped to the ground.

Ariel warned him time and again that nothing good was in store for him if he brought the situation up with Iris!

At that time, he thought that Ariel was merely fear-mongering him in her attempt to protect Leon!

It was too little too late as he finally understood that the real backer behind Leon was Iris instead of Ariel!

There was no surprise then that Ariel would protect Leon, because Iris was also doing the same whether intentionally or unintentionally!

With Iris owing her life to Leon, Joseph's move to frame him was practically the same as signing off on his execution warrant! Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

"You've abused your powers as a leader in the president's department by acting inappropriately toward Miss Cameron and even made wrongful accusations against Leon. This is a disgrace of the highest order, Joseph! You can pack your things and leave right this moment because you're now fired!" Iris announced coldly.

"No, please… I admit my mistake, Miss Young. I'm begging you. Please have mercy on me and give me another chance..."

Joseph's face was pale, and he no longer had the confidence he earlier had. He knelt with a thud and kowtowed for mercy repeatedly.

He was an executive of the company that had genuine authority, and he served for many years with the company. The amount of hard work and effort he put in to get to where he was unimaginable, and he could not accept a punishment as severe as being fired!

Besides, the business world in Springfield City was neither too big nor too small, and there would be an inevitable blot on one's career if a company executive of his level was fired on the grounds of abhorrent behavior. Finding a similar executive job in the future would very likely be an uphill task.

"Leave! Now! Security, please escort Joseph and Donald out of the company building!" Iris commanded coldly.
