The Cherished Wife



"Got it! I'm on it!" Ronald ended the call and dialed Jane without missing a beat.

Jane had been caught up in Winter's recent drama and had not had much work recently. She was deep asleep when her phone jolted her awake. Groggy, she picked up. "Hello?"

At the sound of the caller's voice, Jane bolted upright, instantly wide awake. "M-Mr. Wells? What's up? Why are you calling so late?"

"Bring Winter to Royal Star Entertainment tomorrow," Ronald instructed firmly. "It's important she's there."

"Bring Winter? With all the gossip swirling around her lately, and with Mr. Hoffman..." Jane hesitated. "Mr. Wells, does this mean Mr. Hoffman is stepping up?"

"Did you forget that Winter's still the main actress for Saint Di? We've put that off long enough, and Saint Di's launching new products early next year. Do you want all the company's investment to just go down the drain by delaying the ad even more?"

"Saint Di?" Jane gasped in disbelief. "I thought the endorsement was a no-go..." She had been certain that after the recent fiasco, the deal was dead in the water. Yet here was Ronald on the phone, telling her that Winter was still their girl. That left Jane confused.

Normally, after a mess like that, a company would wash its hands of the person involved and call it a day. To keep the endorsement going was beyond generous.

"You have a problem with Mr. Hoffman's decision?"

"No way! Not at all! I'll bring Winter over first thing tomorrow." Jane let out a relieved breath. "Anything else, Mr. Wells?"

"Mr. Hoffman wants Winter for the role of the second female lead's assassin in Unchallenged Dominion's investment."

"Seriously?"

It was like a jackpot had just landed in her lap. The night had been full of surprises for Jane. Before she knew it, she was already on the phone with Winter.

Winter was less than thrilled to see Jane's name on the caller ID. "Jane, it's late. Unless this is super important, you know I don't like calls outside of work hours."

"I have great news, Winter, and not just one piece of news!" Jane was practically bouncing with excitement, her voice a few pitches higher. Winter could almost hear her grin through the phone.

Winter pulled the phone slightly

away from her ear but could not help but catch Jane's enthusiastic tone "What's the great news?" she asked, her recent streak of bad luck making her Skeptical of any good news at all.

Jane could tell right off the bat that Winter probably did not believe her. "I've got two pieces of awesome news. I just found out myself. First off, you're still the face of Saint Di and they want you in for the ad shoot tomorrow. The secon@bit... let's just say you might be too excited to sleep tonight after I tell you."

"For real?" Winter could not contain her excitement at the first piece of news.

She had been cooped up at home lately, too scared to step outside while waiting for word from Royal Star Entertainment. However, they were radio silent, leaving Winter on edge.

She had thought about reaching out

to Xavier for help, but after several unanswered calls, she got the hint Winter was not one to be snubbed. If

Xavier was going to play She

would freeze him out for a bit too.

In her mind, once this whole mess blew over, Xavier would see she was the victim, and she would be the one calling the shots again.

However, as the silence from Royal Star Entertainment dragged on, Winter's hope had started to fade.
