Chapter 8
The following morning, Kieran descended the stairs to find the servant packing luggage, furrowing his brow in confusion. "What's going on here?"
"Mr. Sutton, these are Ms. Dawson's belongings. She called yesterday, saying she would move out and asked us to pack her things and send them over."
As he stared at the suitcases before him, the image of Freya briefly flashed through his mind. Freya would have prepared breakfast by then, eagerly waiting for him to come downstairs. She would then pull out a chair for him and start a conversation about trivial matters. Today, her absence felt oddly significant.
Realizing he was thinking about Freya, Kieran coldly ordered, "Pack them up quickly. I don't want to see this mess!"
The servant answered, "Yes, Mr. Sutton."
Kieran settled into a living room chair. Noticing the empty table, he grumbled, "Isn't breakfast ready yet?"
"My apologies, Mr. Sutton. Usually, Ms. Dawson is the one preparing breakfast. Our new housekeeper isn't quite familiar with the routine..."
"Hurry up. I have to get to work." Kieran glanced at his watch and suddenly felt irritable.
Soon, the housekeeper served him a plate of toast, scrambled eggs, and sausages.
Kieran eyed the simple breakfast with disdain. "What's this supposed to be?"
"Break... breakfast, Mr. Sutton." The housekeeper looked visibly scared, unsure of what she had done wrong.
Kieran snapped, "I don't eat fried food in the morning and don't start my day with meat. Is this what I pay you twenty thousand a month for?"
The housekeeper was scared out. "I'm sorry! I didn't know..."
The servant interrupted, "Mr. Sutton, she's new. I'll have her make something else!"
"No need." Kieran stood up, and his expression was dark.
Then, Audrey emerged from her bedroom, instantly understanding why her grandson was upset. She said, "Freya used to make breakfast personally, waking up at four a.m. to prepare those exquisite pastries. We used to have at least sixteen nutritious options for breakfast. Now that Freya's gone, life just isn't the same."
Hearing this, Kieran frowned.
Freya decided to call off the engagement! If she wanted to leave, so be it! Kieran refused to believe that he couldn't survive without Freya, who had only been in their lives for three months.
"Grandma, I'm off to work," said Kieran.
"Come back here!" Audrey demanded, "I don't care what you think. I only accept Freya as my granddaughter-in-law. You will go to the Dawson family this instant and apologize. If Freya doesn't forgive you, don't bother coming back home!" Kieran tried to say no. "Grandma..."
"Do it now!" There was no arguing with Audrey. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
Reluctantly, Kieran agreed, "Understood."
Meanwhile, in the Dawson family, the sound of a door forcefully opened echoed as Freya's room burst open.
Leland Dawson stormed in, visibly enraged, and yanked the covers off Freya, grabbing her wrist. "Freya! Have you lost your mind? Calling off the engagement with the Sutton family? Explain yourself!"
Freya frowned in displeasure as she glanced at her left hand, which Leland was holding.
Leland was Freya's brother in name, but he wasn't her father's birth son! After Johanna remarried Freya's father, Leland, already five at the time, was treated as one of their own. Raised as the heir of the Dawson family and spoiled rotten by Johanna, Leland had aimed to take over the Dawson family after pushing Freya to marry into the Sutton family.
