Alina returned home. Drake was still awake.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
He had been anxious since Alina left. Later, Danny called and vividly described the part where Alina dealt with Barbara. Drake finally breathed a sigh of relief after hearing it. Finally, Alina was back. Drake immediately greeted her, "Mommy!"
With concern etched across his face, Drake asked, "Mominy, are you alright? I was so worried about you!" The worry in his voice was evident, reflecting the depth of his concern. Alina's tiredness was swept away when she saw the worried look on her son's face.
"I am fine. I can't be defeated," she reassured him, gently pinching his cheek, a gesture that he accepted without resistance.
Observing her son's face, so reminiscent of Johnny's, Alina couldn't help but sigh inwardly. The power of genetics was undeniable, and she wished that her son resembled her more. "Mommy, you're amazing!" Drake exclaimed happily, his laughter filling the room.
Drake had seldom laughed so freely at home. Only in front of Alina did he feel comfortable enough to express his joy openly.
Johnny had instilled in him the belief that boys should appear steady and refrain from displaying too much emotion, as it could potentially expose their thoughts to others.
Surviving in this world meant concealing your true intentions and not letting others decipher your hand.
"Buddy, I will take you out to play tomorrow and buy you some clothes," Alina promised.
She wanted to make up for the lack of possessions Danny had brought with him. The clothes he currently wore were merely hastily bought items.
"Great!" Drake was about to agree excitedly, but then a thought crossed his mind, and his eyes dimmed.
"Can it be a few days later, Mommy?" he asked with a hint of hesitation.
Drake had received a call from Danny, who informed him that Alina had gone to the Sutton family and asked them to find an opportunity to change their identities. Their holiday was over, and Danny needed to start attending kindergarten. Danny disliked the confinement of school, claiming that he detested the feeling of being constrained. How could he bear sitting there for so long? So, he had refused to go to school for Drake's sake.
"What? Why a few days later? Do you have plans tomorrow?" Alina inquired, curious about the sudden change in her son's
request.
Drake pondered for a moment, then shook his head. "No, Mommy, I don't have any plans. Let's go shopping tomorrow," he said, trying to accommodate Danny's request.
"Alright, baby, go to bed early," Alina instructed, wanting her son to get enough rest.
"Yes! Goodnight, Mommy!"
The next morning, Alina prepared breakfast, and Drake was already up, watching the news.
"Baby, why are you up so early? You're usually a big sleepyhead.
"Mommy, I was not sleepy, so I got up."
"Then come over and have breakfast."
Drake turned off the TV and went to the dining table. The pie Alina made smelled delicious, and the milk looked appetizing.
Drake noticed the cup of milk first and picked it up.
"Oh..." Alina hadn't spoken yet, but Drake had already gulped down the milk.
Alina looked at him in surprise. "Baby!"
"What's wrong, Mommy?" Drake put down the cup.
"Don't you dislike milk?" Alina saw the remaining half-cup.
Danny didn't like milk, so Alina had prepared this cup for herself
Drake paused and almost dropped the cup in his hand.
His face looked a bit panicked. "I... I... I was too thirsty just now and didn't see it clearly."
He didn't know that Danny didn't drink milk at all. Thinking about the past two days when he stayed with Alina, he realized that she had never prepared milk for him. Drake wasn't good at lying. He looked at Alina in panic.
Could Alina find out that he was not Danny?
