Chapter 53
- Jaxon -
"Beta Ford, I'm glad you made it safely to the Cross River Pack," Jaxon said, welcoming the king's beta at the very entrance of the border. He stood in front of the Beta Jaxon's car, directing, "We will guide you to your accommodations, and don't worry, the pack members here have been understanding of the situation. They have experienced the difference in treatment from Alpha Roland to Alpha Kieran. They won't say a word."
"Have you heard from Kieran?" Beta Ford's eyes were puffed. He revealed, "I still have eyes and ears at the palace, and I have heard that Kieran might be dead and that his group was not able to get the miracle root - "
"Ah." Jaxon smirked. It appeared to him that the prince was unaware that his alpha had survived.
"What are you smiling there for, Jaxon?!" Beta Ford asked in anger.
Jaxon shook his head, saying, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Beta Ford, but the news is all wrong. Prince Caspian also went after the fire root plants, and that's how he came across my alpha. The prince thought Alpha Kieran is dead, but he is very much alive."
He explained everything, including how Kieran slid down the crater, only to be saved by a bush tree. Jaxon assured, "And don't worry, Alpha Kieran was able to secure fire root plants, not just one but enough to help cure many warriors who may need it." Relief washed over Beta Ford. He said, "Thank the Moon Goddess! Where is the king now?"
"He is still with Kieran. They brought her to someone very good in healing," Jaxon promised. He tilted his head to the inside of the pack and said, "We should discuss inside."
From within the packhouse of the Cross River Pack, Jaxon relayed everything, how the king was doing better and how Kieran discovered a plantation of fire root plants. Rae was with them the entire time, backing up Jaxon's story. "Rest assured that Kieran and the king are well," Rae said.
"So, there is no need to worry. Kieran simply cannot travel here yet. They are waiting for the king to gain full consciousness. Right now, he is living off his IV fluids and the medication that Morgan had created," Jaxon revealed. "Kieran will bring the king here in the Cross River Pack in a few days."Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
"I'm relieved. I truly am," Beta Ford said, putting a hand on his chest. "I guess now we plan to counterattack. The poisoning was definitely the queen's doing. In fact, we brought the nurse with us who testified that she and the doctor were paid to poison the king. We managed to bring her to our side because she eventually felt guilty. We have already collected evidence to incriminate the queen and the prince."
"And I suppose you already know about Prince Caspian?" Beta Ford asked.
Jaxon and Rae looked at each other. Then, they said simultaneously, "The prince is not the king's son."
-Alexia -
"Good morning, My King. Feeling better?" Alexia smiled while entering the king's room.
King Balthasar was still asleep, but he looked so much better. It was as if he was smiling, and the color of his skin brightened. It had been a week since the king received doses of Morgan's healing potion, and his clinical signs had improved each day. "The king held my hand last night, Luna Alexia. He is really feeling much better. I hope he wakes up soon," one of the guards said. The same man was teary-eyed, genuinely happy for his king.
"Is Alpha Kieran fine with you walking around, Luna Alexia?" The guard sought.
A chuckle left Alexia's lips. She replied, "Kieran was overreacting two days back, but he is fine now. Morgan said it was better to move around and divert myself from the feeling of wanting to throw up."
A maid soon entered the room,
giving Alexia the flowers she requested. She fixed the king's chamber to make it look tidier and then settled a vase of flowers next to the king's bed. She also took the initiative of opening the king's window so that fresh air and the scent of wood would enter his resting area. She remarked, "This is much better. It's not cold anyway, so we can open the windows for some time."
When Alexia was done, she sat beside the king. She held the king's hand and sought the Moon Goddesses' healing. She then told the king about the good news, "My king, Kieran, and I are pregnant. I hope you will bless our child when I give birth." She remained to hold the king's hand for some time, hoping for the miracle to happen sooner, but seconds and minutes passed, and nothing had happened yet.
Alexia smiled. She tightened her hold on the king's hand before saying, "I'll see you again tomorrow, My King -"
"Avery? Avery, is that you?" Barely a whisper, the king spoke. His eyes were slightly open, and his hand suddenly gripped Alexia's. Alexia felt goosebumps, and her head snapped in the guard's direction. She said, "The king is awake. Call Morgan! The king is awake!" Everyone scrambled to their feet in the next few minutes with the good news. Morgan quickly made it inside the room to assess the king. "Water - water," the king asked. However, because Morgan was still unsure if he could drink in a glass, she started giving him drops of water.
Alexia watched as Morgan fed the king water, little by little. While all that was happening, more and more warriors arrived, and Kieran also made it inside the chamber. "Is the king awake?" Kieran eagerly asked, and Alexia nodded.
They both watched as Morgan asked the king. He was still weak, but after drinking little water, Morgan explained, "My king, you are getting better. Alpha Kieran secured the miracle root for you, which we have been giving you so the poison in your body can be neutralized. We will give you more and more fluids orally each hour until you have the energy to drink and may even eat on your own. Don't push yourself just yet."
The king seemed to understand. He did not reply but returned to lying down. He only ordered to recline his bed, gesturing with his hands. After which, the king's landed on Alexia and Kieran. A tear fell down his cheek, saying, "Alexia, Kieran."
Because his voice was barely

audible, he gestured with his hands instead. He called out to Alexia and Keiran, and the couple came forward. They both took each s side of
the bed, with the king holding one of their hands. It was a weak hold, but Alexia felt his warmth and gratitude. In a whisper, Balthasar said, "Thank you."
He turned to Alexia and asked, "Stay - stay."
Due to the king's request, Alexia stayed inside the king's room the entire day. She only retired for the night to rest with her husband. The next morning, the king had more energy, being able to chew very little food like bread and soft fruits like grapes. Only after five days of being awake King Balthasar spoke more clearly, being able to absorb news of the palace.
Alexia and Kieran were the ones who reported everything to the king, including how they found out that Queen Helen was poisoning him. Kieran said, "My King, I don't mean to be rude, but Caspian is not your biological son. A real son would never - "
"I know," Balthasar admitted. "I had known for a long time that Caspian is not my son, but I chose to turn a blind eye because I owed Helen so much. You see, I never loved Helen. I only married her out of responsibility. Even as we lived together, my heart never warmed up to her. She was so much different than -"
Balthasar turned to Alexia and informed, "Helen was not Avery. Despite rejecting Avery and going against fate, I could never forget how I felt for her."
Hearing her mother's name, Alexia's eyes welled with tears. She asked, "My king. Are you - are you my real father?"
