Single Mother: Struggling With The Dangerous CEO

Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Sophia first went to Lianna to figure out the reason but was told that Lianna had gone to the branch company for a meeting.

Samuel was still there, waiting. So, Sophia couldn't delay any longer.

For the time being, she could only inquire about it in the president's office.

The president's office was on the top floor.

Sophia paused for a few moments outside the door. Her hand, which was reaching out to knock on the door, never dared to drop. She finally summoned the confidence to open the door, but it was opened from the inside.

For a brief period, John was surprised when he saw Sophia, but he quickly recovered.

"Which department are you from?" he asked, his face solemn.

"Have all the General Manager Office secretaries gone on vacation?" he further added, wondering why no one stopped her from entering.

Sophia didn't dare to admit that she had been begging the Secretary of the General Manager Office for a long time, so they finally let her in.

"I need to speak with President Evans about an urgent matter…”

"What urgent matter can you and President Evans have?" John insisted, refusing to back away.

Patrick couldn't help but walk over, perhaps because the commotion outside was too loud.

"Let her in."

After that, John opened the door and let Sophia in, but he fled in terror as he came in touch with Patrick's eyes.

"What is it?" Patrick asked.

He then turned around and loosened his tie.He seemed a little disturbed.

"What I said last night was too much, and I apologize if I made you feel ashamed; she stated flatly. She should have known what she needed to apologize for” it was what she said the night before out of impulse.

Five years ago, Patrick had the right to decide for her life.

And five years later, he was still able to do whatever he wanted with her.

That was what she had thought!

"Do you think I can do that?" Patrick said.

Patrick's smile appeared.

"Do you think I care?" he asked, putting one hand in his pocket and approaching her gently.

On the tip of Sophia's nose lingered a fresh and pleasant scent of a man's shaving cream.

It mingled with the smell of wine as if he had just come from a dinner party.

"Then, why was my evaluation case suddenly revoked?!" Sophia asked, lowering her voice as much as she could.

Patrick reclined on the wide table's edge as his arms clasped across his chest.

"Sophia, tell me why you've returned."

He abruptly changed the subject as if the tense atmosphere had vanished.

"I believe this is a personal topic that I cannot discuss with you, Mr.Evans"

In all honesty, what she meant to convey was that ‘'Whatever reason I returned, it was not for you”

She was able to restrain herself when the words reached her mouth.

He appeared to have consumed far too much alcohol. He took a deep breath and lit a cigarette with the lighter on the table.

The man became wholly engulfed in the bright blue vapor, and his face was bewildered.

"I should have known better than to ask you!"

He appeared to be dissatisfied with the response. He inhaled deeply again and smashed the half- burned cigarette into the metal glass jar.

"Sorry, the liquor must have gotten into me."

This sentence encapsulated all of his peculiarities at the time.

He turned around and returned to his office chair, where he sat.His slim fingers hit the phone's shortcut key button.

"Inform Lianna to come up, Lisse."

"Right away, Mr.Evans"

He crossed his fingers and looked up at the ceiling with a pleasant yet tired expression after hanging up the phone.

"I will investigate what happened. You can go now! "

Sophia mistook all of this for Patrick's instructions.

The error in this segment appeared to be on Lianna''s end.

"I'm sorry to bother you" she apologized as she turned to leave.

Patrick had already bowed his head and buried his face in the paperwork. He didn't even lift his head to remind her.

"Just because we were once married does not imply you have any special rights to come and go inside the president's office at your will.I hope you refrain from doing this again next time” he said.

Sophia gave a bitter smile.

Their relationship had never been exposed to the public before.

No one knew he used to be married. How could she possibly regard it as a privilege?

"Don't worry.I wouldn't step in unless necessary"

"I'm hoping you'll follow through on your promises" Patrick responded coldly.

As she closed the door, his figure slowly vanished in front of his eyes along with the closed door.

'Look, Sophia, you can do it so nice when you're facing him…” Sophia returned to her office and waited until she got off work without receiving an answer.

So, she was distraught.

Samuel did not call again, which was gratifying. She didn't want to go on another blind date because she was in such a poor mood, but her mother kept nagging her via phone call.

She couldn't risk enraging her mother, so she had no choice but to accept the appointment.

Sophia hurriedly exited the room after she turned off the computer. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

When she walked through the conference room door, she didn't expect to bump into someone.

Sophia's bag was shattered, and the contents were strewn across the ground.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" exclaimed the other party.

Sophia was unconcerned. She gathered her belongings and continued on her way.She didn't notice that something was missing from her bag.

The blind date venue was picked to be a French Cuisine Restaurant close to Sophia's workplace.

The interior was decorated in romantic and exquisite French architecture.

Sophia entered the restaurant, and with the waiter's help, she walked in front of the blind date.

Finn Bower was a senior executive at a software company.

They were the same age, divorced, and had a child.

"Miss Hill, please sit down.I heard from your mother that you enjoy French cuisine.I hope you don't mind that I chose this one without asking for your opinion?" he asked as he stood up to greet her.

'How chivalric and considerate” Sophia thought, feeling a little giddy because of his gesture.

She wasn't stupid; she knew how to cater to her needs.

"No, it's fine.I'm not picky about food as long as I can eat" Sophia said and shook her head.

She wasn't a young high school girl. She enjoyed the romance and was pragmatic as long as she could eat to her heart's content.

Finn wasn't particularly chatty, but it wasn't enough to make the room feel chilly.

Finn laid down the plate, pushed his gold-rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose, and paused to talk halfway through the meal.

"Do you mind if I ask you about the reason for your divorce, Miss Hill?" Sophia was taken aback a little.

"It's all my fault.I was arrogant. If I made you uncomfortable, I apologize, Finn chuckled dryly, a little agitated because he was being rash.

"No, you can ask everything." Sophia quickly explained.

"The truth is, my ex-husband didn't really love me."

She believed that no matter what excuse she came up with, it would not be sufficient to explain the reason for the divorce.

She would rather tell the truth than a lie.

"You are very sincere. If it were for any other woman, even if it were for something like this, they might not admit it," Finn stared at her after saying that.

"Thank you" Sophia whispered as she averted his searing eyes.

The two of them finished their supper and left until after eight o'clock in the evening.

Finn requested to send her home. She didn't say no.

They didn't seem to dislike one other, so they tried to get along.

At her age, she didn't expect anything grand and spectacular but rather an ordinary relationship.

On the other side, inside a Rolls Royce car, Patrick scratched the gap between his brows as he leaned tiredly against the rear seat.

John sat in the driver's seat, and before he could respond, a couple going out of the restaurant blocked his view.

"Isn't that Mr.Bower, who runs the Bower Group? How can he be walking alongside Sophia?"

"Drive, Patrick, who had been sleeping with his eyes closed the entire time, said, looking even gloomier.

"Look at them.Sophia got into his car'

Through the rearview mirror, John caught a glimpse of Patrick and abruptly stopped talking.

It was because he had heavy coldness in his sloppy eyes.

Throughout the years of working alongside Patrick, John never had the chance to figure out what he had in mind as the cold eyes Patrick possessed were too deep and hard to read.

This time, however, John saw a flash of brimming wrath.
