Chapter 177: Lucy
"Jeez! I can't find the stock of the cake flour!"
I found Jack complaining in the kitchen the next day and I can't help but frown as she has left most of the drawers open.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to buy extra bags the last time I went to the supermarket." Lily, one of the maids replied as she turned to her with a pout.
"Hey, what's going on here? Why are you looking for cake flour?" I asked as I glanced at the wall clock above the fridge. It's already 1 pm and I just woke up so I skipped breakfast and lunch. "Aww! Why, Lily, why?" Jack pretended to be crying but Lily just laughed at her.novelbin
"What will you do with the cake flour?" I asked again. I walked past her and took the pitcher of orange juice from the fridge.
"I'm thinking of baking a mocha cake," she replied which caused me to spill the juice out of my mouth.
"I'm sorry, but you're what?" I bit my lip to stifle my grin.
"I'm going to bake a chocolate mocha cake," she gave me a shrug.
"Whoa! But you don't know how to bake!" I blurted out laughing which she narrowed her eyes at me.
"That's why I'm going to try, duh!"
"Oh, okay," I said nodding. "I'll buy you cake flour and some ingredients you will need for baking later, but can I have my brunch first? I'm starving, you know,"
"Ahhh... thank you, you are really the best of all my best friends!" she even hugged me from behind.
"Tss! I'm your only best friend, hello!"
"Oh, yeah, I forgot, but let me serve your food so that we are even. You'll buy me ingredients and I'll serve you your food!"
"Haist! You now sound like my brother, tsk. tsk. tsk!" I just rolled my eyes as she giggled behind me.
After having lunch, I decided to go to the supermarket. I have nothing to do at home so I offered to buy Jack's ingredients and of course, at least I could think of other things other than Luke and what happened last night. I still couldn't believe how he had successfully turned the tables all of a sudden.
"His facial expression was so damn cold--- argh!" I couldn't help but bang my hands on the steering wheel.
I had just parked my car and now calming my nerves before entering the supermarket.
"Jeez! I just wanted to ask him what he heard but he ignored me just like that!" I kept hitting the poor steering wheel as it was the only thing I could throw my frustration into. "Hmmp! Anyway, why would I bother explaining to him? Yeah, I don't owe him an explanation in the first place, duh!"
I exited the car still feeling annoyed about what happened but since I can't do anything about it anymore, I decided to walk into the supermarket oblivious to the stares I was getting from someone who was following me since my car had left my parents' house earlier. But guess what? I wandered around the supermarket with the same thoughts in my head.
-'Haha... now you've tasted your own medicine!'- I heard the left side of my brain picking on me.
-'Yeah, what gave you the right to explain when you didn't even give him the chance when he was the one asking you the same thing, huh?'- and the right side added.
"Haist!" I shook my head as I screamed, completely forgetting that I wasn't in my room but inside the supermarket.
"Miss, are you okay?"
"Huh?" I gasped when I heard a voice to my left and saw a middle-aged man with concern laced in his eyes as he stared at me.
"I heard you scream so and I thought you were in pain or something, are you okay?"
"Uhm... yeah, I'm alright, Sir," I nodded and smiled. "Thank you for the concern though."
"No worries, sweetie," he lightly patted me on the shoulder before turning around.
But he was just taking a few steps when he turned around and told me the following lines...
"Love is complicated, that's why it is called love and simple things become complicated when you expect too much. In love, you should grow together as a couple, learn about each other, and not give up because after all, happily ever after is not a fairy tale, it's a choice." he winked before finally leaving and going to I don't know where.
And so I was left speechless in front of the chocolate section.
"Whoa!" was the only thing that came out of my mouth when I realized what he just said. "Love is complicated--- whoa! How did he know I was thinking about Luke? Haist!"
I just shook my head again and with a sigh, continued getting the chocolate bars in front of me and putting them on the cart without realizing I was getting a lot of them.
So when I was already at the counter section, I didn't miss the amusement that could be read in the cashier's eyes as she asked me...
"Miss, are you sure you're going to take all these chocolate bars and candies?"
"Huh?" I frowned as I didn't get what she asked at first, but when she pointed out the cart... "Oh, my God!" my hand instantly went to cover my mouth. Half of the space in the cart was filled with the same brand of chocolates and candies.
Well, actually, there would be nothing wrong if I take them all or buy them, the case is that it comes with boxes, meaning you can only buy them per box and not individually.
"Awww! I'm sorry, I was on the phone when I picked them up so I didn't notice, but anyway, I'll take all of that, I'll just go take the boxes."
-'Yeah, liar!'-
I mentally slapped myself as I had no choice left but to get them all. But it's fine, at least I saved my face from embarrassment.
After getting all the groceries... well, of course, most of them were boxes of chocolates and candies, I immediately went back to my car. But as I was about to close the door to the back seat, a girl in all black suddenly appeared in front of me and... "Jesus Christ!" I screamed almost at the top of my lungs. I even grasped my chest due to the sudden and extreme shock I felt when I saw her.
"I'm sorry, Sam, I didn't mean to startle you,"
"Y-You know me? Wait..." I looked at her closely only to realize that she is... "Lucy?"
"Yes, it's me, I'm sorry,"
"Oh, God! You took the hell out of me, for Christ's sake!" I exclaimed, taking a long, deep breath to steady my breathing. "Why did you do that and what are you doing here?" I asked her as I slowly closed the door.
"I just want to talk to you, I mean, I have something very important to tell you."
"About what? And by the way, what is it this time, huh? Did you already forget the last time you talked to me---"
"It's my fault! Everything was my fault and I'm sorry." she cut me off.
"What the heck do you mean by that?" I could help but frown as I stared at her.
"Can we go somewhere else? I really have to tell you this, Sam, please?"
I held my breath for a few seconds but then agreed with her.
"Fine, there is a near coffee shop here, is it okay with you?"
"Yes, please,"
I made sure the door to my car was all locked before leading the way to the coffee shop. I felt confused and tensed at the same time and I don't know why.
