Chapter 39
I was almon midnight. Kage was on his laptop, trying to finish up with his assistants
Uses were about launching their latest product which had a very unique feature. It was a feature that no other devices had at
ment, and Kage was happy has was going to be the first. He was sure it'd be a major hit.
Ensure this continues to stay as private as possible, and work on the others like I said, he instructed the first assistant
Yor that, wir
Awhile later, and they were done.
Pushing his laptop and files away. Kage laid on the bed to sleep. But sleep wasn't forthcoming Instead, he thought of the lady
the second room, who was definitely sound asleep.
His ex-wife. It sounded odd thinking of her like that. He couldn't believe they use to be married.
As he stared into the ceiling, he wondered if he'd have gone ahead with the divorce if he knew she was pregnant.
Sylvie was excited when she woke up to the house smelling really good. Food kind of smell.
She hurriedly brushed and rushed downstairs to meet the dining filled with too many delicious dishes.
Good lord! Her cheeks blushed crimson.
She didn't have such privilege when she lived alone or with Stephanie. Seemed like living with Kage wasn't much of a bad idea afterallBelonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
The maids were still setting the dining when she took a seat and began eating. She didn't even have the time to answer to their greetings as she filled up her mouth. "Did you even ask to know if that was for you?" Kage asked as he made his way to the dining, holding his laptop in his hand.
Sylvie rolled his eyes. "Well, who else is pregnant for you?"
He paused for a second. Now, why did that make him smile?
He took a seat, adjacent to hers.
"Syivie Price, aren't you aware you're expected to greet the others when you wake up in the morning? Or did your father not teach you manners?"
"Oh, please! Like you have any she rolled her eyes at him.
You saying I don't have manners?"
"Kage, if good manners was gold, you'd be broke by now."
He shook his head, munching on some chips while working on his laptop.
It didn't take long before he caught sight of something that ruined his mood.
What is it? One your sex buddies is pregnant for you?" Syivie teased when she noticed the change in his expression, but he didn't even look at her or crack the hint of a smile.
On the screen was the news of Pulse-Wave, announcing the date of their new launch. It was on the twenty-sixth, which was a day before his and in a week time. They hinted at a unique feature that no one else had developed before. Now, Kage dadn't feel good about this
"Hey, what's wrong?" Sylvie's brows furrowed, noting he was looking too serious now,
"It's nothing, he closed the laptops and tried focusing on the meal.
3.24 PM
They got ready and left for the office together, sharing the backseat. While Kage replied to emails on his laptop as well as calls, Sylvie busied herself with her phone, drinking from her freshly squeezed orange juice. She kept stealing glances at Kage, wondering if that was the perfect time to bring up the 'talk. But they were getting closer to the office. She feared they wouldn't be a more perfect time if she didn't speak up already.
"I want to ask you a question," she began. "But first, you need to promise me you aren't gonna get mad or yell at me."
He shot her a surprised stare. "What're you asking?"
"Promise me, Kage. I know how annoying you can be. She rolled her eyes.
"Fine. I promise.
"Did you have something to do with Westley's partners pulling out of his firm?"
His eyes grew cold, then his lips curled in a smirk. "Why would I? Did anyone see me doing it?"
Sylvie gasped, realizing that was the same thing Westley had said.
"So, you actually did it?"
"Never said I did.
"Kage, come on...
"Well, what do you expect? He stepped on my toe and thought I wouldn't react? He must be joking." Syivie pinched her forehead.
"But seriously, was that necessary? I think you went too hard and...".
"I don't wanna talk about it, Syivie, not anymore. Otherwise, I might really get mad," he rolled his neck. Syivie scoffed, taking a long swig from her sippy cup. Gosh, she wished she wouldn't get stuck in this drama. It wasn't long before they arrived the company.
Lana had been at the office, earlier than usual. She continued pacing at her window, looking out for Kage.
She'd been to Kage's place the previous night and was told he didn't return home. He wouldn't take her calls either. She was worried and decided to catch up with him at the office.
Her stomach churned when she found him leaving the car with Syivie. No way.
Did he meet her on the way and decided to give her a lift or what? She scoffed.
She waited patiently until she was sure he'd be in the office. Then, she went over.
"Care to explain where you've been and why you're showing up with Syivie?" She tried to keep her tone neutral as she walked into his office and met him on a phone call.
He glared at her before ending the call. "I'm pretty sure you saw me on a call, didn't you?"
"That isn't important. I am asking a question," she gave a faux smile. "I was at your place yesterday. You weren't in and didn't go
home."
"Ana that's an issue because....?"
She chuckled with disbelief. "Kage, we're engaged! Maybe you haven't noticed, but we are!" She showed her finger to him. "So, 1 think it's in my right to be worried and know where you spent the night" The reclined in his seat. Fine,
"Sylvie and I are living together. For the meantime, he revealed.
It was the biggest shock of Lana's life. She blinked severally, wondering if she was imagining things.
"Okay, she laughed, hunching over the table. "I get it, you're joking."
"If you think I'm joking, then you know little about me."
"So, why the hell would be living with Syivie? I mean, how? For what reason!?"
"Because she's pregnant. The biggest bombshell.
Lana's countenance dropped. Her lips parted and her heart raced faster than it's usual pace.
"What did..." She gulped. "What did you just say?"
Kage would've loved to keep it a secret if he could. But Sylvie's stomach was already protruding, it was only a matter of time before everyone got to know. Besides, it'd better explain the reason they were living together. "You've got to be kidding me, Kage," she shook her head. "This... It can't be true."
