Hint of Darkness and Light

Gift

Verena’s POV

“I’m afraid of the time when he is truly bond with me. It’s terrifying to think of it.”

“When he marks you, maybe advise him not to do that thing on the pack house?”

My brows furrowed at Rox, she only shrugged.

“Why?”

“We’ll hear the whole… thing you know?”

“Oh,” I whispered, feeling my cheeks warm and having no idea why. I glanced toward the east side of the pack, and I only saw trees and parts of small gardens.

A shout from the other side of the training ground snapped us around. Another yell was heard. I stilled.

“What’s going on?”

“I don’t know, maybe someone is hurt.”

We rose, Rox run to the commotion while I followed her.

A group of young males gathered around.

“We found him besides the barn, I t-thought he was just messing around and then when we… we find him he looks like this.” The kid seems frightened and horrified.

I crept forward, peering between those gathered. A sharp swirl of tingles spread out from my chest, causing my breath to catch. The answering, throbbing warmth caused me to stop.

“We can’t carry Rhain in his state. Brix make a run and tell this to the pack doctor right now.” A man with ginger hair ordered.

“Shit,”

I got the better view of the situation. A male kid, thin, limp arm and then the delicate blood-smeared fingers and broken nails.

Bile climbed up my throat as the warmth in my chest pulsed once more. His face was a mass of swollen, blood-streaked skin-flesh split open over the cheeks and forehead. The lips were torn, the nose pushed to an angle, obviously broken.

“Good gods, what happened?” The guard asked while panicking.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Oh my god! Rhain my baby what happened to you!” A woman pushed the crowd to get a hold of her child. She was sweating from running and she’s in shock she can’t fathom her tears.

I hate this kind of situations. I knelt to the side of his mother, parting her back. She look at me with tears in her eyes.

“He’s dead,” I muttered lowly. Some eyes stared at me with disbelief.

The guard that seemed to be his father check his pulse. He cracked up and cried. He hugged her wife while kids started to tear. His best friend wheezing besides him.

My blood boils, my eyes started to throb immensely. I inhaled deeply-taking in the scent of lilacs. Freshly bloomed lilacs. And that smell…it was coming from me. Someone spoke, but I didn’t know who or what they said. Couldn’t hear them over the humming in my ears and the urge…this calling that sank deep into my muscles, overriding any thought.

Despite the sunshine rays, mist started forming.

I heard someone shouting while pointing at me. All I can see is deep vast of nothingness. Power slithered from my skin wandering until it reached the child in front of me.

“What… what is happening Verena, you’re h-horns are showing, and you’re eyes oh gods they’re white.” I looked up at Rox but I can’t fully see her.

Panic started to rose inside of me. I felt liquid gushing out of my nose. Luminous radiates from my hand. I felt everyone backing up from me.

A very pierce howling and growling peered my ears it hurts. The other pups that are in their werewolf form started to pace relentlessly.

And that’s when my vision cleared up again, blue eyes stared at me in disbelief. Damon. He appeared frozen in disbelief like the others, rooted to where he stood as the humming warmth continued spreading through me.

“What’s… what’s happening to me D-Damon?” My staggered breath came out as a whimper.

“Holy shit,” I saw Damien stopping in his track to take a look at the kid I’m holding in my arms.

The shimmering light flowed from my fingers and settled over Rhain in a bright, intense wave. The mist is all gone.

The silvery light flared as intensely as sunlight on a summer’s day all along Rhain’s skin. His chest rose with a deep, shuddering breath that seemed to roll through his entire body. I lifted my hand. The glow throbbed and then softened, slowly fading until…

Underneath the blood, his skin had smoothed and stitched itself back together across cheeks now pink with color. The tear along his forehead had healed, leaving only a rosy line behind. The wound at his throat had sealed, leaving only a ridged scar of puncture marks. Rhain’s eyes fluttered open. Brown. He looked straight at me, and then her eyes closed.

His chest now rose and fell slowly, his breathing deep as he slept, healed lips parted with another steady exhale.

The one who only appeared to move was Damien, he ushered the kids away from the scene with disbelief still plastered on their face.

Damon walked towards me to help me sit up.

“You’re not only a witch, god knows what kind of gift that was.”

When we are left, the elders appeared still in shock.

Damon continued, “The one who holds the power of divination is only meant to destroy, not extend a life.” I looked over at him and saw only him. Saw the disbelief give way to wonder-wonder that turned into something powerful and bright, something like hope. My chest tightened until I wasn’t sure how I breathed.

His words lifted the shock from the room. One by one, even the Alpha understood his statement.

“Bring the kid to the pack doctor Damien,” Alpha announced, breaking the silence. Damien nodded and took Rhain away from my eyes.

“Alpha!” Someone shouted, a man running towards as.

“What happened Ryan?”

My mind is hazy, and my temple hurts as if I got hit with a big rock. Tears swells from my eyes. Damon held my hand tightly.

Parts of the mist still lingered around us, making the air more suffocating.

“There are p-plenty of them Alpha! The Unknowns… they’re here!” Ryan announced.

A ting of pain hit my entire system. My brows furrowed when I can’t feel my feet and hands

Until the darkness consumed my vision.
