Her Precious Baby

Chapter 44

Chapter 44

That was the nature of men. They would never realize how great it was to own something until they had lost it.

Just then, Angeline smiled and added, “However, I had a senior in high school who’d pick me up every day on his bicycle. He would pack food from the cafeteria for me and even go to all the upperclassmen’s classrooms to borrow a dress when mine was stained during a cultural performance. He was once an important person to me.”

The look on Hanson’s face changed when he heard that. For some reason, it made him feel strangely uneasy.

He had never expected Angeline to regard him as her senior again. At the same time, the words “an important person” kept echoing in his mind as if it was a string tugging at his heart.

Joseline could not help but scoff inwardly as she observed the change in Hanson’s expression.

Hah. Here I was thinking Angeline was quite a capable person. Well, all she knows is to bring up these memories in front of the camera. Why would Hanson be with me if he really cared about the past?

As she lifted her head, her eyes fell on the water park, and they glinted with malice.

After taking a ten-minute break, all the guests gathered at the water park to begin the first mini-game, Guess the Riddle.

There was an automated elevator in the middle of the pool. Once the guests had stepped on it, the elevator would start moving with increasing speed. At the same time, the host would ask them questions. If the guests failed to answer them, they would be tossed into the water.

Soon, the match began. The guests were divided into two teams, red and blue. Angeline was assigned to the blue team.

The first group of people to join the match were a few rookies. The host held up a tiny board with a brain teaser written on it. Unfortunately, some of them failed to guess the answer, and they fell into the water, leaving everyone roaring with laughter.

Just as the show was at its peak, it was Angeline’s turn.

She arrived at the scene, stepped onto the elevator, and got into a standby position, looking rather serious.

“All right. Currently, the red team is leading the game by one point. All the blue team’s hopes are pinned on Angeline now. Let’s look forward to her performance!” The host chuckled and blew the whistle. “Ready… Go!”

He quickly picked up the board from the floor, which had a question written on it: How do you calm down a sparrow?

As soon as the question was revealed, the elevator started moving. To prevent herself from falling, Angeline had no choice but to start walking on the elevator.

The question was surprisingly challenging. However, it was a brain teaser, which meant one could not figure out the answer using normal ways.

“The answer is—” Angeline was about to answer when the elevator suddenly moved faster as if it had lost control. She could not keep up with its speed.

With a loud splash, Angeline fell into the pool, forming big waves upon impact.

She tried her best to flap her arms, keeping her head above the water while she waited for the film crew to send in a lifeguard. To her horror, no one came.

It was only after she choked on the water several times that she realized it was all planned.

“Help!” Her cry was incredibly soft, and her consciousness was slipping away.

Alas, the guests on the stage thought she was acting for the sake of the game. They were teasing and laughing at her.

Only Hanson realized something was amiss when he watched the rippling waters. Suddenly, he recalled the incident where Angeline had accidentally fallen into the pond behind their school during their high school days. By the time he rushed over to save her, merely five minutes had passed. Even so, she was already on the verge of unconsciousness.

That incident alone was enough to prove that Angeline did not know how to swim.

At that thought, Hanson stood up abruptly from the chair; his usually warm expression turned grim. “That’s enough. Stop filming.”

He took off his coat while making his way to the pool.

“Hanson, what are you doing? The water is cold!” Joseline shouted frantically.

Hanson, however, ignored her words, leaping straight into the water. He swam professionally toward Angeline and pulled her into his embrace.

Angeline had her eyes shut tight, with her eyebrows knitted together.

Hanson’s heart was instantly filled with worry. He leaned into her ear and whispered, “Angeline, stay with me. Don’t sleep.”

Then he brought Angeline out of the pool as fast as he could.

Seeing that the situation was bad, Lester hurriedly called over the medical staff on standby to perform CPR.

At the same time, Joseline walked over with a towel. She placed it over Hanson and said worriedly, “Hanson, you should go get changed. It won’t be good if you catch a cold.”

At that, she lifted one of the corners of the towel to wipe his face, but he did not respond.

Instead, he reached out and shoved her away harshly. “Stand there. Don’t get in the way here.”

With that, he continued patting Angeline’s face and kept calling her name.

Get in the way…

Joseline staggered backward. When she finally steadied herself, she noticed Hanson’s concerned gaze as he looked at Angeline. She felt as if she was struck by lightning.

Just then, Angeline spat out a mouthful of water and lifted her heavy eyelids, gradually regaining consciousness.

Hanson’s face instantly lit up. He helped her up from the floor and asked, “Angeline, how are you feeling now?”

Angeline frowned at the blurry sight. She coughed lightly and replied, “I’m fine.” Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

Lester, who was standing by the side, looked utterly guilty. “I’m so sorry. The lifeguard left. I’ll get someone to fire him later.”

“It’s okay. He didn’t do it on purpose.” Angeline’s voice sounded hoarse.

She glanced at Joseline, and realization dawned on her the moment she saw how anxious the latter was.

Immediately after that, her lips curled into a smile. She hung an arm around Hanson’s neck weakly and stroked it gently with her nails.

“Hanson, I’m freezing,” she said feebly, sounding as if she was acting cute yet feeling aggrieved at the same time.

Hanson froze.

Angeline had changed. She contrasted greatly with the cute and obedient version of her from the past, and the difference made him feel excited.

“I’ll carry you to the infirmary,” Hanson said grimly. Bending over, he picked her up and marched toward the infirmary.

Being left behind, Joseline felt utterly humiliated as the crowd glanced at her oddly.

She had only wanted to teach Angeline a lesson.

Unfortunately, she underestimated Hanson’s skills at hiding his emotions. She could not bring herself to believe that her caring fiancé still had feelings for Angeline.

I’m bearing your child! Angeline is such a cunning woman! I’ll never let things go her way.

Soon, Angeline arrived at the infirmary. When Hanson hurried off to get her a change of clothes, she gently wiped her hair dry using the towel he gave with a smirk.

I can imagine how interesting Joseline’s expression will be.

The door suddenly opened, and Joseline could be seen entering before carefully shutting the door.
