Part 109
Altezza is indeed conscious, but that doesn’t mean she can go home freely. Her broken bones have indeed improved during her coma period, but she still needs intensive care. Because her body didn’t move for three months, some parts of her body became swollen and stiff. So, Altezza has to undergo regular therapy.
The wound on her head has also dried up. Although the doctor stated that Altezza would definitely have side effects due to the surgery.
Meanwhile, after Altezza regained consciousness, the legal process began. During the accident, it turns out that Altezza wasn’t the only victim. Two other cars were also hit in the incident. So, the total accident involved four cars and nine victims, although it didn’t result in any fatalities. However, among the nine people, Altezza suffered the most severe injuries, while the others only suffered minor injuries.
Adaline has never wanted to know the cause of the accident. And her family has never discussed it in front of her to protect her and the baby she’s carrying. So that Adaline wouldn’t have any other worries that would endanger herself and her baby. Just seeing Altezza’s condition is enough to make people worry about her.
But now she finally knows, and she indeed needs to know why her husband had the accident. Whether it was purely an accident or intentional. And everything finally unfolded when the police came and asked for statements.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Jovanka is the main suspect in the accident. The woman has been proven to have been tailing Altezza and deliberately nudged the car she was driving. In fact, the woman almost escaped if she hadn’t been blocked by another car. Or another possibility is that after seeing Altezza’s condition, the woman was about to crash herself.
“If only I were there, I could imagine a scene from a Fast and Furious movie. Just imagine I’m Paul Walker,” Gian commented in his usual style.
“And you would end tragically,” Antony commented flatly.
“But how could he know? Is he some kind of stalker?” Gian looked at Altezza. The man was now leaning on his wife and rubbing her belly.
“I think Aunty has found the culprit,” Antony commented again, Altezza looked at his cousin with a furrowed brow. “An informant who provided information about you,” he continued, responding to Altezza’s confusion.
“But who?” Altezza was quite surprised to hear this. Because his mother had never recruited people randomly.
“She’s the daughter of the old maid. She doesn’t work in the house, but she just happened to be at home when you happened to leave. And the day before that, Jovanka happened to meet her when she had just left the house,” Antony explained.
“She’s already been made a key witness. And she might be made a suspect later on, considering what she has caused.”
“What about Jovanka?” Altezza wanted to know. Not because of his concern for the woman. But more out of fear that the woman would cause even more danger to them. Especially to Adaline.
“There’s no definite process yet because we’re still gathering evidence. Plus, we’re waiting for you to wake up to be a proper witness. Because for now, she insists that it was just an accident.
“But that woman is now under house arrest. For now, she just has to report every day.”
“We have to be careful. I don’t know what madness she might do next.
“She dares to come to the office to look for me. She even dares to attack me openly. I don’t want anything to happen to Adaline and our unborn child,” Altezza said cautiously.
“Isn’t there anything else we can do? Like setting a trap for her to admit all her mistakes and eventually get the police to arrest her?
“We could record it through CCTV, then invite her and let her confess all her faults herself,” Gian suggested.
“You watch too much TV. Do you really think trapping someone is that easy? If you’re not good at talking, you might end up trapped by their cleverness instead. Clearly, she’s a cunning woman,” Altezza commented cynically.
“If only you had realized from the beginning that she was cunning. Surely, you wouldn’t have fallen into her deception. It’s a shame you only knew the truth when it was already too late,” Gian retorted, equally cynical.
He turned to look at Adaline. “Adaline, are you sure you want to get back with her? Don’t regret it later on. I’m still available, you know,” Gian teased with a flirtatious expression directed at Adaline.
Altezza grabbed a tissue box from the nightstand and threw it, luckily Gian was quick and skillfully caught it.
“I thought you had no strength. But turns out you’re strong,” he mocked as he placed the tissue box back in its place. “See, he’s strong, which means all this time he’s just been pretending. He’s only acting weak to get your attention. I told you I’m better than him. I’m more handsome. I’m younger. Even though I’m not richer, at least I didn’t hurt you,” Gian taunted again, listing all of Altezza’s shortcomings.
“Damn you! Why don’t you become the object of her obsession instead?” Altezza glared at him cynically.
“Me? It’s clearly impossible for me to be the object of her obsession. Because I wasn’t the first one to fall in love with her. And I’m not a foolish lover of a beautiful butt. I’m just an ordinary man who would like an ordinary woman who looks ordinary but has an extraordinary heart,” he replied at length. Altezza snorted.
“What about beauty?” Antony teased.
“Of course, that’s number two.”
“Number two?” Adaline, Altezza, and Antony asked simultaneously.
“Yes, number two. First, find a wife who shares your faith. Second, find one who’s stunningly beautiful, to improve the lineage. But even if she’s not beautiful, there’s plenty of time and money for plastic surgery.
“Third, look at her lineage, it doesn’t mean she has to be of noble descent. Nor does she have to be from a family of officials. But find a woman who’s well-educated by her parents.
“Lastly, look at her wealth. If she’s rich, that’s luck. And if she’s not wealthy, we’ll be rich together,” Gian quipped in the style of a TV preacher.
This time, Adaline threw chocolate snacks from her nightstand at him. “Why, Ada? That’s a fact. If you don’t believe it, you can ask the neighbor next door,” Gian nodded towards Antony. “He’s the one who gave that sermon back when I was young,” Antony replied cunningly.
“Enough, I’m tired of seeing you. Can’t you just leave? Don’t you have anything else to do besides coming here and bothering me?” Altezza asked, not pleased.
“I came here to visit Adaline, not you. Just trying to persuade her to change her mind. I still keep the door of my heart open for her. It would be a shame if you end up wasting her. So, Ada. It’s better if you choose me over Altezza,” he coaxed, making Adaline laugh.
“Ma’am, don’t be tempted by his words. His talk is just empty talk. There’s no substance to it,” Altezza tried to persuade his wife. He didn’t want her to fall for Gian’s charm so easily.
