Chapter 1242
Jacob and Carly were caught up with the assessments for the kids of the city's elite, leaving early and getting back late every day. Flora found herself bored out of her mind. "Hey, how about we hit up the Security Division for a bit of fun?" Connor suggested, noticing how dull things seemed for her.Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
"Absolutely!" Flora agreed eagerly, feeling like she'd go stir-crazy otherwise. So, off they went to the Security Division for a change of pace.
These days, the Security Division was knee-deep in training. Jonathan got word that Connor was on his way and, with the top brass in tow, waited at the entrance to greet them. "Boss, ma'am," they all said respectfully.
"Boss, is there something important you need from us today?" Jonathan asked with a serious look, the senior officials eyeing Connor anxiously. Historically, they had to practically beg Connor to drop by, and even then, it was a coin toss if he'd actually show. So, seeing him here of his own accord was both a shock and a cause for jitters!
Did they mess something up? Was there a slip-up in the Security Division? Or did Connor have a significant task for them?
They braced themselves for a scolding or a big assignment. But Connor casually said, "Nope, nothing pressing."
Were they about to get an earful anyway? They tensed up.
Then Connor added, "Flora was bored at home, so I brought her out for some fun. No need to sweat it."
The senior officials: "..."
They'd already been sweating it, though...
They'd begged Connor to come, and he never did, but the moment Flora mentioned being bored, he was there in a flash? That seemed a bit over the top.
"Let's break it up. We're gonna check out the training field," Connor said, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
One brave soul spoke up, "Boss, we've actually got some official business to discuss. Could you join us in the council hall...?"
Connor's gaze turned icy, "I'm here to hang out with Flora, not to handle work stuff."
Last time, these guys had kept him tied up for ages, leaving Flora to fend for herself in the dungeon.
"Don't bug me with work."
Connor then turned to Flora, his demeanor softening immediately, "Come on, let's make sure you have a blast today."
Flora grinned and nodded, letting him take her hand as they walked on, leaving the senior officials behind, looking like they might cry.
...
At the training field, captains from
teams one through eight were pushing their squads through the paces. Team nine's captain,
ver
Kenneth, was on duty elsewhere, so he wasn't around.
Almost a hundred men were training, shirts off, when Connor and Flora walked in. They snapped to attention, "Boss! Ma'am!" Their voices boomed across the field. Even if they weren't fond of Flora, respect for Connor kept them courteous.
"Put your shirts on."
Connor's eyes darkened as he saw their bare chests. He swiftly covered Flora's eyes with his hand.
At first, they didn't get it-who wears a shirt while training in this heat? But seeing Connor's action, they quickly caught on and threw on their training gear.
"Keep at it," Connor's expression softened, and he let his hand fall away from Flora's eyes.
He was met with Flora's teasing look.
"Jealous much?" Flora teased with a smirk.
Connor's ears turned a bit pink, perhaps a tad embarrassed.
"You're only supposed to look at me," he insisted, still possessive. "No checking out anyone else."
Flora chuckled, wrapping her arms
around his waist. She gave him a playful pinch through his shirt and, not satisfied, snuck her hand up under the fabric.
