Chapter 1223
Why is Flora, who's clearly living in the Mortal World, so incredibly strong? And why does FUND practically bend over backward for her? Well, it's simple-she's the boss lady of FUND!
"Flora, no... My lady, I've messed up. We should've never crossed you. Please, spare me and the Schuler family!" Brandon was on his knees, practically groveling at Flora's feet. It finally hit him just how badly he had miscalculated. Trying to mess with the woman who runs FUND? What was he thinking?
Flora stayed silent. She wasn't one to play the saint, especially for someone who tried to take her out. Plus, Jacob and Carly had been there too, and Brandon's guys nearly hurt them.
"My lady, are you going to plead for them?" Jonathan asked, eyeing her carefully.
"Are you kidding me?" Flora turned away, shooting him a glance that could freeze water. Jonathan let out a nervous laugh. He had genuinely feared Flora might go all soft-hearted. If that happened, he thought, she really wouldn't be a match for the boss.
"Do what you need to do. I trust your judgment," Flora said, then spun on her heel and walked out, with Jonathan scrambling to keep up. Brandon just crumbled, totally defeated.
...
Flora took a quick stroll and then headed back to the main hall. The big shots were chatting with Connor but clammed up the moment Flora walked in. With Connor around, they didn't dare disrespect her, yet it was obvious they weren't fans of hers, thinking she wasn't good enough for Connor.
Flora couldn't care less. She walked right up to Connor and wrapped her arms around his waist, ignoring the others. "Connor~"
"Wanna head back?" Connor asked, giving her cheek a playful pinch.
"Yeah," Flora nodded. Connor grabbed her hand, ready to leave.
The execs got jittery. "Boss, there are still a few things we need to go over."
Connor didn't come around often, and they had loads to discuss. "Weren't you all just quiet a minute ago?" Connor said, holding Flora's hand as they descended the steps. His cool, detached manner
chill down their spines. Sente
Clearly, he'd
been aware of their little antics all along. "Don't let it happen again." novelbin
With that, Connor led Flora out, leaving the execs to watch them go, too scared to say a word.
...
The Martial World came alive at
night. The black market was
bustling, way more than when Flora
was still early, Connor and Flora
had visited during the day. Since it
took a leisurely walk around. It had
been ages since Connor last set foot here, and nostalgia washed over him. The place had changed so much. Back in the day, it was nothing like this. Back then, it was a barren spot where a young Flora would sit cross-legged, chatting with a confined Connor, calling him "brother."
"Connor?" Flora noticed his distant look and called out.
"It's nothing," Connor replied, taking a deep breath and shaking his head. Flora didn't think much of it and turned her focus to a nearby stall The sign said they were dealing in remedies, with all sorts of pills and tablets.
Wait, tablets? Flora felt her pocket-she happened to have some on her. Curious about how her medical skills would stack up here, she decided to check it out. The stall owner saw her approach and greeted her warmly, "Hey there, miss! Looking to sell or buy some remedies?"
