Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Without hesitating, Bowen picked up his phone and transferred a large sum of money into her account.
This was the unspoken agreement between them.
Sleeping together was all about money, not love.
Even though they’d been together for three years, not a single word of love was exchanged.
When Bowen looked at her, he saw beauty, understanding, and obedience.
When she looked at him, she saw money.
This all went back to what Bowen had told her the first time they got together.
“If we stay together, we won’t be compelled to. If we break up, it will be without strings attached. We don’t have to be happy, but we at least won’t be sad.”
And so she did it all.

When they got up the next morning, Jolene helped him get dressed as usual and scolded him, “Don’t come over tonight. Mrs. Evert asked you to spend more time with Miss Gellar. You can take her to see another movie and then get dinner together. The weather’s nice today. The Kea Mountain will have a good view of the moon.”
Her voice remained flat, almost as if she was discussing any other matter of business.
Bowen continued to stare into the floor–to–ceiling mirror in front of him.
She was always so good at tying his ties. He could never get it right on his own.
Sometimes, he’d even visit her in the morning just to get her help.
When he processed her words, he simply looked down at her face.
Noticing his gaze, she tilted her head and gave him a gentle smile. “There, all done.”
“You’re a good assistant,” he said.
Jolene’s smile grew wider. “Thank you, boss.”

Since she’d gotten up later than usual this morning, she hadn’t had time to prepare breakfast.
One after another, the pair left in their respective cars.
As she exited her neighborhood, a striking sports car at the intersection caught her eye.
It shone in the sun. Its bright hue made it difficult to pinpoint if it was more orange or yellow.
As she passed by, she kept an eye on the driver.
It turned out to be Sophie, Viona’s sister from the previous. night.
Upon realizing this, Jolene quickly whipped her head around and placed her sunglasses over her eyes. She then sped by the sports car as fast as she could.
Her morning was already very busy.
She was extremely busy this morning. A big project was underway in which Toyar Company and Earth Group were working together on.
She needed to get through all of the prep work. It didn’t sound like a lot when she said it like that, but she had

She couldn’t even rely on Bowen since he’d gone out of town this morning. He had a meeting to attend with the Commerce Department.
It was up to her to get everything prepared before his return.
As busy legs carried her through the building, she heard Joyce’s startled voice call out from the front of the Secretarial Department.
“Ma’am, who’re you here for? Do you have an appointment with them? You can’t just enter without prior notice…”
Jolene glanced through the door. She noticed a woman in a bright yellow halter dress whisk through the entrance like a whirlwind of destruction. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Before she could properly recognize the intruder, the woman. rushed up to her and raised her hand to deliver a fierce blow.
The loud slap caused everyone in the room to freeze.
Joyce gasped and abruptly stopped in place.
After the impact, Jolene could finally see that the woman in front of her was none other than Sophie Gellar.

She seemed to have used too much force because she shook her hand in pain.
Even as she wrung her hands in agony, Sophie cried out, “Jolene Marsh, this is to teach you whose bed you can and can’t climb into!”
Jolene already knew in the back of her mind that Sophie had seen her that morning.
She guessed that she’d also seen Bowen’s car when he left.
Jolene couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret. If she hadn’t been so busy today, she would’ve left later after Bowen had already headed out.
Despite the burning pain that spread across her face, she kept up her smile.
“Miss Gellar, what brings you here? I’m afraid Mr. Evert isn’t here right now. Should I leave a message for him?”
Sophie wrung her hands in anger and frustration.
“Don’t play dumb with me. Let me make myself clear. My sister may be a good and gentle person, but I’m not as easy to push around. If you make a move on her future husband, I’ll make you regret being alive!”
