Want you back
Lynn
If I was going to see Alec and try to convince him to take me back, I needed to look my best. I was not very good at makeup but I had to try. I had recently started experimenting while watching tutorials online. Now was the time to put those skills to use. I sat at the vanity, and observed my face. There were dark circles under my eyes, probably due to all the crying I’d been doing since Alec and I broke up. I was a mess and was counting on the make up to make me look like a living person.
After applying primer to my face, I opened my makeup kit. I applied foundation, blending it carefully and making sure I covered the entire face evenly. Next, I applied a thick layer of concealer under my eyes to cover the dark circles. I lined my eyes with black eyeliner to create a smoky look. After adding some mascara, I applied red lipstick and finished of the look with some bronzer to add warmth to my cheeks.
When I was sure I looked presentable enough, I stood up and took one last look at myself in the mirror. I looked good and confident. I was ready to face Alec and try to get him back. I grabbed my purse and headed out the door. Kari, who was lounging in the living room raised her brows.
“You look great. Where are you going?”
“It’s a bright Saturday and I’m tired of moping in the room. I’m going to the park.”
“Okay, enjoy. I’m going to watch TV and eat snacks all day.”
“Bye.”
Alec’s new apartment was not very far from where I lived. Since I had finally got my car repaired, I drove there. Ron had given me the room number as well. I stood outside his door for a while before raising my hand to knock.
There was silence for a while, making me wonder if he was inside. Then I heard the sound of footsteps approaching the door. My heart raced as I hoped he would hear my out. After the way I had treated him, I knew I didn’t deserve it. When the door swung open, I was met with the sight of Alec Warton, looking fresh in a white shirt and black sweatpants.
His eyes widened when he saw me. “What do you want, Lynn?”
I took a deep breath to steady my nerves. I was visibly shaking. “I just wanted to talk. I’m ready to listen to you. Can we talk about what happened?”
He looked at me for a moment, then shook his head. “I don’t have anything to say to you, Lynn Harris. You made it clear. We’re done so just leave me alone.”
And with that, he slammed the door shut in my face, leaving me standing there like a fool. Tears welled up in my eyes as I realised that there was no going back. Our relationship was truly over.
I did not leave immediately but decided to try again. Knocking on the door, I waited. The door did not open.
“Alec, please. I’m very sorry for how I treated you. Let’s talk about this, please.”
Alec ignored me and it hurt like hell. A few minutes later, a man came into the hallway.
“ma’am, you have to leave. Stop bothering our residents.”
“You called the manager on me?”
“Let’s go, ma’am. Some people are trying to have a good rest. It’s a weekend, you know.”
“Was it Alec who called you?”
The door opposite Alec’s opened and a nerdy girl’s head popped out. “It was me. Some of us are trying to study. Have some class, stop being so desperate. If he doesn’t want you anymore, leave him alone.”
I gasped. The audacity!
“I know you may not want to hear it right now but she’s right. When a man wants you, he’ll come looking for you. You’re too beautiful to be begging some guy to let you in.”
“I was the one who wronged him.”
“What did you do, cheat on him. Trust me, a man cannot forget that.”
“No, I didn’t. You know what, we don’t have to talk. I’ll just go and get into my car. Good day.”
I sat in the car for about twenty minutes before I got the strength to drive back to my apartment. When I reached there, I sat in the car for a long time as well. What was I going to tell Kari. Eventually, I decided to bypass our apartment and go to Chris’. He was the one person who always understood me. Had I fallen in love with him, things would have been so much easier. I wouldn’t have had to shed so many tears. Unfortunately, I had to go and fall in love with someone who came with a lot of baggage. Our relationship had been doomed from the start.
I sat on the couch and Chris sat next to me, trying to comfort me.
“It’s okay, Lynn.” He said softly, rubbing my back gently. “You made a mistake but you don’t deserve to suffer this much. Everyone makes mistakes.”
I sniffled and wiped my tears away. “I just don’t know what to do anymore.” my voice was shaking. “He won’t listen to me and I don’t know how much I can take this. I find it hard to believe that it’s really over.”
Chris wrapped his slender arm around me and pulled me closer. “Give him some time. Maybe he’ll get back to you soon and you’ll talk again.”
“I hope so, because this is driving me crazy. To make it worse, I have so many assignments and I can’t concentrate.”Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
Chris squeezed my shoulder. “You have to go and work on your assignments, Lynn. You can’t lose both the relationship and education. Forget Alek now and get back to your room and do the work. I wish I could help but I have a lot of work of my own. I may not be able to help but I’m going to let you cry all day and waste valuable time because of some guy. Get up, Lynn.”
I frowned. “What has gotten into you?”
“Lynn, I care about you. For that reason, I want what’s best for you. I will not let you sacrifice your academics just to wallow in misery.”
“What am I going to tell Kari?” I asked. She was going to ask why I returned so fast and I didn’t know how to answer that without telling the truth. I couldn’t let her know what I was up to.
“Make up something. Tell her your date cancelled on you or something.”
“I didn’t tell her I had a date.”
“Well, now you’re going to.”
“Thank you so much, Chris.” I said, standing up. “I’m sorry for burdening you with my silly issues.”
“They’re not silly issues.”
“You’re too nice.”
“Go and study, little girl. Meanwhile, try to forget about that jerk. Focus on what’s actually important.”
I smiled before opening the door.
