Perfect match
Lynn’s POV
We were all eating at the table. While Jen and Kari were chatting happily, I was fidgeting nervously with my hands as I tried to gather the courage to tell them what was on my mind. I knew that this was not going to be an easy conversation.
After a lot of internal conflict, I took a deep breath and blurted out. “I’m getting back together with Alec.”
They looked at me in shock.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Jen asked. “I mean, considering everything he did to you. You were pretty hurt and I don’t want to see you get hurt like that again.”
I nodded. “It’s not going to be easy, and I don’t think everything will always be perfect, but Alec and I are willing to work through our problems, and start over.”
Kari chipped in. “What about all the times he hurt you? Don’t you think you deserve better?”
I sighed. “You guys don’t know the whole story.”
“What’s the whole story?” Jane inquired. “Tell us so we can understand why you would choose to do something like this.”
I told them everything, how Jessie and Carina had plotted to break Alec and I apart.
“That b! tch,” Kari said. “She took Ron away from me.”
“Okay, Kari. This is not about you. Why didn’t you tell us everything, Lynn?” Jen asked, reaching out to put a comforting hand on my shoulder. “We just want you to be happy. If this is what you really want, I will support you no matter what. What do you think, Kari.”
“Well, it seems we judged Alec harshly because of Ron. It is clear now that he is not like Ron so I guess you can go for it. But the moment he hurts you, I’ll skin him.”
We all laughed and I reached out to hug them. “Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it. I know that your recent interactions with Alec were not so good and this might get awkward but I’m glad you guys are supporting me. I’m so happy that you’re back into my life. I was going crazy without you.”
“We know,” Kari said. “We could tell you had finally lost it when you started hanging out with those two air heads. Girls like her cannot be friends with girls like us. We think about completely different things. We have different priorities. Had you been thinking straight, you would have known that she was up to something and would have stayed away from her.”
“I know. I was really sad and desperate. That’s partly your fault for abandoning me.”
“Hey, are we going to let those girls get away with everything they did to us?” Kari asked.
Jen frowned. “What are you thinking now?”
“One word. Revenge.”
“The best revenge is moving on and living your best life,” Jen said.
“Not everyone can do the whole forgive and forget thing,” Kari said. “Those b1tches need to pay for causing all this mess.”
“Lynn, just ignore her.”
I shook my head. “I can’t. I think Kari here is onto something. Jessie needs to pay for messing up my life. i just can’t let her walk away scot free. She needs to know that messing with me comes with consequences.”
“You guys are crazy. You will revenge against her, she will revenge against you and the cycle will continue. Just let it go. It’s not worth it.”
“Not only Jessie, Carina too.” Kari added.
Although Jen was against the idea, Kari and I started plotting our revenge on Carina and Jessie. We stepped out of the apartment and went to sit at the backyard to brainstorm good revenge ideas. Coming up with a good revenge plan was not easy. We had a lot of ideas but most of them were on extreme sides. Some would be too harsh and others would be too soft. Coming up with an idea that could hurt Jessie but not destroy her entire life was hard.
We needed something that matched the crime. Jessie’s crime was not that bad. If I had not been a stupid bitch who ran off without listening to Alec or properly analyzing the situation, we would not have been in such a mess. It would not have been as bad as it turned out to be. Jessie would have had no power if I had been communicated better with Alec. She had set out to destroy my relationship, but I had given her the power to succeed in doing so.
We also chose not to go for something extreme because we were a bit scared of her. For instance, if I slashed her car tyres, she’d just do the same to time and the cycle would continue.
“I think Jen was right,” I said after some time. “It’s not worth it. We might just start something we can’t finish. I got my man back, maybe I should just focus on enjoying his love and my education. Jessie did not win. I won. There’s no need to take revenge. Now, if I had failed to get Alec back, it would have been a different story. There was no point in fighting.
Kari sighed. “You can forgive jess if you want, but I have to do something about that Carina.”
“Ron was the problem. If you want to take revenge, he is the one you should go after.”
Kari sighed. “Maybe you’re right. Maybe I have been holding on to my hatred towards her because I don’t want to face the bitter truth. Ron did not love me. He fooled me. I guess that little prude is right after all. It’s better to just move on and enjoy life.”
A few minutes later, we went back to the apartment, having resolved to forget about revenge and move on with our lives. We found Jen chatting happily with Chris on the couch. I was surprised because I’d never seen them having a conversation beyond greetings. A flood disaster movie was playing on the TV.
“You didn’t tell me that Jen was into disaster movies,” Chris accused me.
“Oh, it never really came up.”
“You know how I love these kinds of movies,” Jen said. “They’re the best type of movies. How could you not think of telling me there was someone else who loved them as much as I did?”
“I hate to think that you were trying to prevent us together,” Chris said, with narrowed eyes.
I chuckled. “No. I’m even surprised I didn’t talk about it. I wonder how I forgot.”
“It’s alright.”
“Jen, why don’t you come up to my room? Ross is out and we can watch The Halloween Floods. It’s one of the latest movies, and it’s amazing. Have watched it five times. I’m surprised you’ve not yet seen it.”Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Wooow! If you’ve watched it five times then I really need to watch it,” Jen said, standing up. “See you later, girls.”
Kari smiled. “Why does this seem like the beginning of a beautiful love story?”
“Because it might just be one,” I replied.
“Shut up, you two.” Jen said.
They left the room while laughing. Seeing Chris and Jen so excited made me happy. Maybe they were about to find love with each other. They were both good souls so it would be a perfect match.
