Chapter 45
Meanwhile, Rose lay on the bed, her mind preoccupied with thoughts, her heart filled with rage. 'You all think I'm your puppet-you manipulative murderers. Well! Let's see!'
They had successfully awakened her revengeful motives. Anyone that had harmed her mother and her (in her previous life) would never be spared. Anyone.
But what should she do?
She did not have the network, money, nor power. How was she going to compete against her father, who had everything she lacked?
She needed to plan carefully. But for now, she knew she had to stay alive until at least when she got to twenty years old as that was when she could inherit the money from her grandfather. She needed that money to win the battle.
Thanks to Sophia, she finally knew that she did have properties from her mother and grandfather. According to what she heard, she had officially inherited the property at the age of twenty. However, she could only have assets to have of the property as she would have full assets on all the property after she's married for four years. That is why Henry had married her so that they could possess all her full property.
Just as she was busy with her own thoughts, she was interrupted by the sound of door knocking. She didn't realize how long she had been preoccupied in her own thoughts.
Rose glanced at the door which she had locked when she entered her room so she got up from her bed and walked towards the door. The moment she opened the door, she saw Paige standing outside her room with a tray of food in her hand.
She moved aside to let Paige into the and closed the door behind her. "Don't be surprised. I noticed that there was so much food on your plate earlier when the maids cleared the table. So, I brought fresh food since you might not have the appetite to eat earlier." Paige suddenly spoke before Rose could ask her what she was doing with the tray after she placed it on the table.
"Oh, I see. Thank you for that, Aunty." Rose scratched the back of her head awkwardly and smiled at Paige. She was the only one who had noticed that she hadn't eaten her food.
"What about my father and Stepmother?" She asked.
"The Master has left to the company and both Madam and the second young miss have just left the mansion as well." Paige replied.
Rose nodded her head at the news, it's a good thing was the only one at home. Of course, she knew Beatrice had gone out to go and mend her cracked reputation among the other women while Sophia had gone out to hang out with her friends from other rich families as well.
"Is there anything else you need, Young Miss?" Paige asked, staring at Rose's distant expression.
"No, no." Rose snapped out of it when she heard Paige's question.
"I will be taking my leave now. If you need anything, call me or one of the maids." Paige said as she made her way to the door but suddenly stopped in her pace and turned around to look at Rose.
"Young Miss, I have something to ask you? Do you possess the box that I gave you a few years ago on the day you were first traveling to study abroad?" She asked, looking at Rose.
Without thinking much about what she was saying, Rose calmly nodded her head. "I do. Is there a problem?"
"Nothing. You remember what I told you about opening the box as well?" Paige shook her head and asked again.
"I remember clearly. Aunty, tell me why you're asking all of this suddenly?" A frown appeared on Rose's face.
"I think that it will come in handy for you soon." That was all Paige said and walked out of the room without waiting for Rose's response.
Rose creased her brow in confusion at Paige's strange words. Casting what just happened aside. She walked towards the chair and sat down to eat the food that was bought for her since she was already starving due to not eating earlier at the dining table.
After she was done eating, she pressed the button and asked a maid to come to her room and clear the plate from her room. She locked the door after the maid walked out of her room.
Not wanting to laze around on her
bed since she had nothing to do, Rose walked to the veranda and sat down on one of the chairs. She suddenly recalled something a few minutes after she sat down. She had made a promise to call Alisa, her roommate and best friend when she arrived in California. However, she had totally forgotten about it and hadn't called her ever since she arrived.
Picking up her phone, she dialed Alisa's number and the call connected at the second ring.
"Hello? Rose, are you really the one calling me or what?" Alisa's soft voice rang out from the other side of the phone. Her voice was laced with hesitation as if she wasn't sure if it was really Rose that called her or not. "Mm-hmm. Yes, it's me." Rose calmly replied. However, she nearly went deaf the second she replied and confirmed that it was her.
"How dare you still answer me so calmly? Do you know what you've just done to me? I was so worried about you fo the past eight days and here you are calling out of your convenience. You even have the guts to sound this calm?! I was about to pack a few things and board a plane to California to check upon you!!!" Alisa's soft yoice was completely replaced as she yelled furiously at Rose over the phone. For a moment, she thought Rose was actually involved in a plane crash but after much searching she realized that there was no plane crash on the day Rose had returned.
On the other hand, Rose rolled her eyes at Alisa's dramatic voice as she distanced the phone away from ear in order to protect it from Alisa's yelling. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
However, for some reason she felt
warm in her heart. In her past life,
even though she knew how much Alisa cared and loved her she was too busy and was unable to replicate Alisa's sincere feelings for her. Yet, Alisa who knew about this stift kept sticking closer to her but she didn't express her feelings towards Alisa until the very day she died in the accident that her family caused.
