Alpha's Blind Luna

Chapter 38

I leaned against the balcony railing of the bedroom. It was maybe about 2 a.m. and Auri had been right. The storm blew through for about 5 hours but now the night sky was clear. Taking a deep breath of a cigarette, I blew it out into the air. I had never been one to smoke but after the training and re- education, Auri and I would sometimes sneak off to have a smoke. Apparently, if Bryan or Hector caught her, she would be in deep shit. Since her body no longer healed like a normal werewolf, it was actually bad for her.

She still did it with Morgan and now me. I wasn't about to tell off the woman who I had seen destroy an entire camp of wolves what she could or couldn't do. Shifting, I winced as my legs and ass radiated soreness. Sighing and looking over the ocean, I took another drag.

"I didn't know you smoked."

I turned to see Vale, naked, leaning against the balcony doorway. Taking him in, I exhaled out my nose, the smoke rising between us.

"There is a lot we can learn about each other, I think."

Vale chuckled and came out, taking the railing of the balcony in his hands and leaning forward. "You're right. I mean, You took over your pack when I was four."

I winced, letting off an awkward chuckle. "Thanks for putting that thought into my head. Now I need another smoke."

"You're welcome." He flashed me a smile. "It must have been hard. My dad took over at 15 when half his pack was killed and even that was young." I leaned back against the railing, looking back into the room. "I had help. For better or worse. The Elders helped and Leo helped." My head fell a bit. Vale leaned into my arm. "I heard about your Beta. I'm sorry."

"Actions have consequences." I sighed. "I learned later on that the Elders had been using me to push their agenda into the pack and by the time I figured it out, it was too late. I was never the Alpha my brother wanted to be, or that the pack needed.”

"Apparently, they needed you bad enough that they made you Alpha at thirteen. I mean, they had other options." Vale shook his head. "You were exactly what the pack needed. No matter if you think you were or not. You protected that pack and you were their Alpha for what? Eighteen years? Neen? You were a good Alpha, Ezekiel. You will be Alpha of this pack as well."

I blinked for a moment and turned to look at him. "What?"

He sighed. "I've got so much on my plate right now, being King isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Especially after basically an entire generation gap of no king. I wouldn't be able to handle both the shit going on and a pack."

"But Vale..."

He stood up from his lean and cupped my cheek, brushing across my five o'clock shadow. The sparks made my knees start to shake.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

"I need you to take care of the pack, Ezekiel. The everyday things. I learned the basics but I never able to put it into practice. Honestly, I would feel more comfortable with the High Council than one of the offices here. I need you. I need your expertise and your knowledge." Vale's lips rested on my forehead. "You are everything I need. I didn't even realize it, but I do. I needed your help because you complete me."

My heart thrummed in my chest and I couldn't help the smile that crept onto my face. "You need me, do you?"

He nodded, Vale's head fell to the crook of my neck. I squeaked a bit as he licked my new mark. My cock twitched and suddenly my boxers felt more constrained than they had a moment ago.

"Vale..." I groaned, grabbing his arms. "I need you too. I needed you to take me out of the hole I was digging myself and my pack into. I needed you to help free me and show me I could be more. But..............”

"Can and will stand beside me? Ezekiel, please. Don't you think it's time you became the kind of Alpha that you can be proud of? Where you can stop telling everyone you aren't meant to be Alpha."

I sighed and nodded. "Whatever you need, my king."

Vale groaned. "Don't call me that."

I smiled and pulled his head up from my shoulder. A mischievous smile plastered on my face. "But you are my king."

Vale smiled. "Then if I ordered you to come back to bed..."

"As you wish, my king."

I smirked and allowed Vale to lead me back into the room. He climbed on the bed and pulled me onto it. Climbing in, he pulled me close and I curled up against him. His arm fell across my waist and I was pinned. Sighing, I just snuggled in closer, taking in his scent and the sparks. My mind raced a mile a minute though.

For some reason, even with Rose I ended up as the little spoon more open then not. So I was used to it but I could feel Faris grumbling in my head. We were still of Alpha blood but the thought of taking over the pack side of the Golden Moon scared me. More because I saw how Auri, Hector and Bryan worked seamlessly together to run the whole operation.

"Ezekiel, stop stressing about it and go to sleep." Vale mumbled.

I chuckled. "Yes, my king."

Closing my eyes, I let go of the thoughts and worries until tomorrow. For now, I could enjoy the company and the love from my mate.

My eyes fluttered open and I looked around. The bed next to me was empty. Frowning, I got up and took a quick leek before grabbing some sweats and a shirt. The prickle of frustration and slight anger filtered through the bond. Opening up the door, I saw Bryan and Hector leaning against the railing overlooking the downstairs.

My brow furrowed and I walked over to them. They both put their fingers to their mouth and I turned to see Vale and Auri, seemingly locked into conversation.

"I already told you everything I know! There isn't anything else to tell! They don't tell me everything!" Vale's voice was raised, an edge that I had heard when he spoke on the second day at the High Council.

My initial instinct was to go calm them down. I could feel Vale but I could also see the lines on Auri's face that were rarely ever there. Hector reached out, though, and stopped me. He shook his head without saying a word.

Vale slammed his hand down on the kitchen counter and I jumped.

"I don't care! I honestly don't care!"

There was a pause.

“No! I don't! I am the Alpha King. ALPHA king. Not the king of everyone!"

Another pause but Auri's brow deepened and I could see at least one of her hands balled up into a fist.

"If push comes to shove, yes! Yes, I would! All of them can die because for my people's sake, OUR KIND, mother, I will stand by them!"

My eyes widened and I looked at Hector and Bryan. Both had equally shocked looks on their faces.

"I don't care if I'm leading a bunch of drugged up wolves, I will be on their side if a war comes."

Auri shook her head.

"Yes! Even if they are wrong, mother! Because they are our kind and my people and I will protect my people from fucking extinction."

Slamming a fist down on the sink, I could hear the vibration of the metal. Auri was mad. Maybe even more so than Vale.

"If it ever comes down to it, yes! I would fight you if you turned your back on your own fucking kind."

Vale's eyes lit up, his Alpha King presence filling the room. Bryan and I went to our knees nearly immediately but Hector was still standing, clutching the railing with white knuckles.

"I don't want to but I will!"

I couldn't even look anymore, my lungs feeling like they were being squeezed.

"It would never come down to me killing you, mother." Vale's voice was low. "I..."

Suddenly a second, pressure filled the room. This time, Hector couldn't hold against it and fell to one knee. I strained to look and Auri's eyes were now golden as well.

"I can't..." Suddenly, Vale sounded small in the face of her anger.

There was a long pause before Vale growled. "We would do what it takes. If that meant I had to kill you and Grandpa then so fucking be it!"

Vale threw a glass at the cabs and it shattered but Auri didn't even flinch. He turned and stormed out of the room. His anger overflowing into me but there was a hurt and a disappointment there as well. Auri's eyes dropped back into their usual grey color and her head bent down. I started to get up but Hector took hold of my arm again, shaking his head.

We watched together as Auri stood in the kitchen, not moving other than clenching and unclenching her hands. Suddenly, within a single blink, her hand moved and the column that was on the right edge of the kitchen island, exploded. My eyes widened as I watched the load baring column that was made of concrete and metal, disintegrated. The solid piece that ran from the floor to the cleaning, a four foot space was out of it.

I looked at Vale who was outside but you could see his same shocked face as he watched from the window. Auri walked out of the kitchen and slammed the front door behind her. The sound of the door made me think she took it off it's hinges but I didn't hear it fall.

"Now, you can go." Hector flashed me a small smile.

"You knew she'd..."

He shook his head. "I just know her. If it wasn't the wall it would have been something else. Vale went too far."

Bryan shook his head. "He called her mother. If anything, he's going to be saying sorry for that three weeks down the line."

I followed them down and Hector ran a hand through his hair, surveying the damage. “I don't think I'm competent enough in my Italian to get this fixed. I'm going to call Morgan. See if he can't get someone out here."

Bryan was grabbing a broom and a dustpan but when I tried to help, he shooed me away. "Go to your mate, Ezekiel. I can't remember the last time they fought like that. He's going to need someone."

Nodding, I headed outside and saw Vale, standing at the edge of the grass overlooking the sea as I had been yesterday. Walking up next to him, I let our arms brush, sending the sparks racing over our skin. His arms were crossed over his chest and his brow was furrowed as he stared out at the sea. There was a long silence that spread between us as we just stared into the deep blue water.
