BOOK 2: CHAPTER 79
Rowan's POV
"I guess this is it then," Alexander mumbled as soon as we both came out of the car. I took a deep breath before I placed one footstep before the other end.
"Yeah, this is it,"
I looked up at the signboard of the psychiatry hospital where my biological mother was being held. I'd managed to read her file a few days ago and I realized she had been held here because Mika's father connived with the doctor to write a false report claiming she had a mental disorder.
My father failed to protect her and still went on to fail to protect me. He tried apologizing the last time we talked but honestly, my heart wasn't open to him yet.
Reina slid her palm into mine and I looked at her. She had a tiny smile for me and I had one for her too. She was probably the strongest person I knew. Her friend's death and disappearance were still a mystery but Reina had managed to move on and would be starting college in a neighborhood town in a few months. She wanted it like that and I supported her.
"You should go in," she urged me.
I nodded. I would do just that. I didn't come this far to chicken qut.
I turned to Alexander.
"You should go now," I pointed to the next car. He was supposed to leave my pack yesterday but he stubbornly insisted he would leave today after bringing me to this hospital
"I will and I guess I'll see you soon,"
I shook my head. "I'm hoping you won't," I answered.
"Don't worry about the Gideon guy. He won't hurt you or anyone again," he assured me.
"What exactly did you do with him?" I asked him the same way I did two weeks ago after we returned and I saw that Gideon was no more in the pack.
"My men took him to our station. He'll be staying there till he breathes his last,”
I nodded. "Just.." I paused. "Take it easy on yourself,"
He smiled.
"I will and you too, take care of each other,” he pointed to Reina and me.
"We'll do that, Alexander," we chorused as we shared a look.
Alexander walked closer to me and Reina let go of my hand. I whined gently as I watched her put a reasonable distance between Alexander and me.
"I'm sorry I turned my back on you when we were kids. Maybe I shouldn't have let go of your hand like that. Maybe if I'd held on a bit, things would be different now," Alexander said, taking me by surprise.
"I pushed you away first, I told him with a shrug.

"Because you were going through things which were greater than you and you didn't have anyone on your side. I had my mom and, you didnt."
I looked away for a while. "It's all in the past now, we should move on,"
He nodded frantically. "Yes, we should. Also, I'm sorry I didn't help you when I found out what happened with Mika's dad,"
I shrugged again.
I understood why he was apologising but I didn't want it. He shouldn't feel guilty for something he had no power over. The King would've been the best person to help but he didn't. He trusted a stranger over his child.
"About the throne..."
I interrupted him by groaning. "I don't want it. I already told you.
I don't want it too,"
"I guess your father might not have an heir at the end of the day then,"
Alexander laughed.
"Would you ask your mom about your Lycan?"
That was if she was mentally stable enough to help me.
“Get out, Alexander. I'm getting tired of your numerous questions,"
"That's the last one, I promise,"
"I won't. I love the surprises and I can deal with it," 1 simply answered.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Alexander suddenly threw his arms around my large frame, hugging me tightly, I had a deep frown on my face at the close contact but I didn't stop him or push him away. I let him have his moment.
TIl call you," he told me as he walked away.
"Well, I won't," I replied.
"At least, I'll call,"
He waved as he walked towards the next car. I heard from Mika last night that they were going their separate ways for the main time. Maybe someday in the near future, they would be able to be together again but for now, Mika said she had a lot to think about.
First, she was bringing her sisters into our pack so they could stay with her. As for her mom, she didn't say.
I turned to Reina and she held my hand with a smile.
"That was sweet, she teased.
"Please, don't do that,"
She laughed loudly. "Why?"
We began walking towards the hospital. "Because f..." I paused. I don't know but just don't remind me that I shared a hug with Alexander,"
It wasn't bad. It was sweet.
16:17 Fri, Nov 15 B GR.
"No! It wasn't," I insisted and she laughed.
We got to the reception and we were told to wait a while before they would attend to us. Alexander had told me it was a psychiatric hospital for werewolves and one of our grandfathers was the founder. I didn't know which one because I didn't care. Growing up as an heir in the palace, my ancestry and lineage were shoved down my throat but the moment I left that place, I managed to force myself to forget every one of their names and faces.
Reina once told me that maybe the palace wasn't so terrible, maybe it was the people in it that were terrible.
"How may we help you, please?" The receptionist who was also a nurse gestured at us. We stood up and walked closer to her.
"We're here to see Rose Margaret,"
She turned to her laptop to search for a name. For a moment, I wished she wouldn't find her and I would have to leave since it was becoming clear that I was really meeting my biological mother.
As though she could sense my anxiety, Reina squeezed my hand lightly and I released the breath I didn't even realize I was holding
The receptionist smiled. "Check the third floor, she should be in room 5 by now,"
I nodded. "Thanks,"
Reina offered her a sweet smile.
Once we got to the third floor and began walking towards room 5, my heart raced unbelievably. All my life, I hated this woman for leaving me in that death trap not knowing she was in a death trap herself.
How does she look now? Will she recognize me? Will she remember her own name?
We walked into room 5 and only saw two people there. None of them was her because there were two males in patient's clothing. A nurse came from the bathroom and Reina walked towards her. I reluctantly followed.
"Hi, sorry to bother you. we were told we'll find Rose Margaret here,"
Before the nurse could answer, I heard a footstep behind me.
"Rowan," A female voice called. I swallowed hard before I slowly turned to look at her.
It was her. It was my mother. She had a beautiful smile on her face and she hadn't changed one bit over the year. On one hand, she was holding a mop stick, and on the other hand a bucket.
She was wearing a janitor's clothes.
"You're Rowan, right?" She asked me again
I nodded. Tears slipped down her eyes.
Reima
came beside me and when I looked at her, I nodded, letting her know the woman was who we came there to sec.
"I gave you my curse, didnt 1?" She asked through tears, referring to my Lycanthrope abilities.
I nodded. "Yeah, you kind of did,"
"I knew it. I'm just too good for this world,"
I didn't know when I laughed. She had a sense of humor and I guess that was the part I didn't inherit from her,
She slowly walked towards me and hugged me.
"I'm so sorry, Rowan. I'm so sorry," she apologized over and over again.
"Don't apologize. I won't accept it, I told her.
When she finally let go of me, she turned to Reina.
"She's pretty," she commented while looking at me.
"She's my mate and my wife,"
"Good! Good!"
We ended up sitting in silence and only saying a few words for the rest of the day. When we were ready to leave, she held face and told me.
my
"You don't have to promise to come back to see me. I don't have to promise I'll look for you but promise me one thing, you'll take care of this lovely
girl and you'll protect her and your lovely kids for the rest of your life. No matter what, never turn your back on her. Promise me, Rowan,"
A lone tear slipped down my face but I managed to hold her hand.
"With my life, I promise you that,"
"Good! Good!"
She replied and kissed my cheeks.
